Slides from Nominet's presentation on .uk consultation

I find the differences between v1 and v2 quite astounding really when put next to each other.

In my opinion it shows that the publicly given reasons for .uk being released are just a false front and that the real motives are hidden.

All the problems they aim to help with, aren't problems.

It's a nice clear pdf to show how stupid the whole thing is.

You really wonder what on earth is going on at nominet.

Yes, it brings into even more stark relief the fact that .uk offers NOTHING to existing registrants, and very little to new registrants, while inconveniencing, costing and confusing all and sundry. Even the security aspects have been thrown away.

Actually, Nominet have been fairly explicit about their reasons - it's just that they've been hoping nobody would notice that those reasons had everything to do with Nominet, and nothing to do with registrants (or, in many cases, with domain names!)

See page 8 and pages 41-45 of my document for a full breakdown of Nominet's stated reasons, and what they really mean...

Proposed cut-off date of 1 July 2013 (for domains
to be in existence)

We probably need to carefully think through what this statement means (and, personally, I hadn't noticed it in other material previously, but that may just be me).

non government department reserved list domains

It only applies to the Reserved names proposal of non government department reserved list of domains.

I think it was added in case there were compensation claims from any UK tld with that string which would not be entitled to the .uk domains because of this exception.

Only extra new thing I could remember apart from emphasis on trust/security on addresses was the 60 day period to prove verified address before .uk domain was released back.

Scenario 2 is hilarious.

A commercial entity is beaten to the premium domain by someone having a domain intended for personal use.

Utterly, utterly crazy.
