Most of the time I either take photos myself or my clients provide photos. But sometimes I do need to purchase stock photos for web projects.

I use Fotolia and have found it to be really good, particularly because they also have illustrations, Vectors and even videos. I would like to have more options though because sometimes I just cant find an image that meets my needs.

Can any of you recommend any good stock photography companies that you use?

I had always used istock until I stumbled across http://www.123rf.com/ which seems to be alot cheaper with a great choice, £20 gets you 32 credits.

I just chose one large image which is 2503 x 1676 px for only 3 credits.

i use istockphoto.com and there are also a few free ones out there, just do a search on google.

I currently use bigstockphoto.com

& sxc.hu before they were bought out by Getty images

I use dreamstimes mostly too, their small image can easily be increased by 50% without major loss.

Some of their illustrations are hella expensive tho. I've had the artists create me custom work for a few pounds more than the stock.

I keep looking at these 'stock dvds' that are like £10 on ebay, but I get the feeling they have just robbed em off the net and rightful owner would dbf me in the end.

I use istockphoto.com.

But a tip is to contact a startup photographer near you. They will often work with you if they get credit on the website or if you promote them in some way.

You might also want to check tradebit.com ,some of the sellers do sell stock photos.

It is decent but does have varying licence agreements, and once I used a picture I thought was fine and ended up getting an email from someone who had found it somehow and wanted me to put a link up, so I just took down the photo.
