Anyone else had phone enquiry where someone says their boss is interested in a domain you own, is it for sale and can they contact you about it later.. you say ok - and then you hear nothing back..

This is the third time in a year this has happened - I think i'm being a naive muppet in missing some sort of scam..?

People change their minds all the time, also it could be a broker trying to sell the domain to someone else and he king if it's available.

Is it similar to another that’s developed are they calling for same name ?Have had with coms if you have say the hyphenated plural etc they the not or vice versa they call and ask you to call back they never answer but you can leave a message... Then I think depending on the message you leave try and build a case against you. I have had someone try it on said I approached him denied all knowledge tried to use phone message but didn’t bother to check if I record calls also lol or just the same as the emails then you get no reply timewasters...

Frequently.

Not by phone, but I've been getting more and more emails where somebody's unidentified "client" is allegedly interested in a domain name. They never seem to come to anything.

Happens in various guises all the time - even by snail mail. I wouldn't worry about anything that isn't followed-up..

Could be your being sized-up - certainly won't be the domains that are being mentioned in that case

Just as a follow-up. I had a nice chat with a 'yank' just a few weeks back - who quite openingly admitted his job was to 'Size up vulnerable domain holders and sellers' anyway he could

He was operating in .com arena though

Bailey what do you mean by "size up", just checking if your desperate to sell?

Looking for vunerable sellers isn't just about those desperate to sell - but those that might hold domains without real valuation methods -for example I sell with a little bit of a careless attitude in .co.uk (which I don't do in .com or Tld's).

And lets not forget a domain could be held for a dozen years (unused) then has a 'possibility' of emerging as a usable term - theres certainly opportunity for those that build-up a knowledge base of sellers/holders

I see. Thanks. I guess my problem is I feel like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to buying domain names. They are easy to register and the more you have =, the higher the re-registration fee will be.

I need to stay focused and only buy names I think are outstanding, or ones I plan on developing. The trouble is I've already racked up about a dozen I need to develop now.

I had this and left it, not wanting to seem desperate or that I needed to sell. I just made a note of who I spoke to and any info I could, in case I needed to call them back one day.

They called back 6 months later so I knew they were very interested, sold to them in the end.
