123-reg comes in for a lot of stick on domain boards - And 99% justifiably so imo. However, I like many have been registering with them for a number of years. So why?

Obviously lazy habit comes into the equation but, looking again at their interface, You do find it is very service orientated, particularly for a business operating (and managing) say its 2 or 3 domains for its company/business or personal website.

Their telephone pick-up is always fast and polite even if occasionally you don't get the issue resolved.

They just not geared or suitable for domainers operating a large number of domains given their domain management issues

Last time I used their online support ticketing system, it had some fairly big usability issues. It's things like this that stay that way for years that tell you it could be trying a bit harder to please.

Rgds

Thank you both for your feedback

Just to let you know that we at 123-reg take on board what we read on forums such as this one, we use this information when making improvements on areas our customers felt we fell short in the past. We have a number of improvements we are working on including easier management for large domain portfolios.

@ Accelerator could you DM me details of the issues you found with the online support system and the ticket numbers you experienced them with so we can look into them for you.

Anyone else on the forum with ideas or suggestions please also DM me.

Thanks, as you've made the effort to reply I will PM you, but I've just looked at the interface and you've updated the functionality of following page to resolve my issue:

http://www.123-reg.co.uk/support//protected/askaquestion.aspx

This used to have the Category field loading after dependency on a previous field, and it was a bit of a usability nightmare, but it looks like you've changed it now.

Well let's see, at least they never used to charge me a release fee, unlike UK2.

There you go, something nice.

;) In my younger days "getting DM'd" usually meant finding yourself at the toe-end of a Doc Martin Boot on a bank holiday monday.

123-reg we're one of the first registrars to give users complete control of DNS records of domains hosted with them...

I first used them around 8 years ago and haven't had the need to go anywhere else..

Their support is always pretty good too, I hacked around with my VPS to save memory and they let me know that a rebuild would break it.

Nice of them to be proactive..

@ accelerator Thank you for you feedback. It’s important for us to address any usability issues our customers raise, in late 2011 we gave our support site a bit of a facelift. One of the many updates made as part of this resolved the issue you had previously experienced as you had confirmed.

Anyone else on the forum with ideas or suggestions please also DM me.

I had one of their ppls trying to scare me into buying whois protection when i was on a support/technical call with them. FAIL

I tweeted as much and 123reg were going to 'investigate' lol.
this sillyness aside, I've always had a decent service from 123- can't fault them.

I still use them...have always used them...they are consistent for .uk
