Hi

I am not sure what I can do about this and need direction if possible.

I have been contacted by a very large internet service provider (hosting & domains) with a terrible reputation/reviews.

They are basically saying my trading name and slogan is confusing for their customers but if I resell their services they will turn a blind eye. (it will be less confusing for their customers)

Our slogans mean roughly the same but use totally different wording and neither are trademarked and both bring up 1000's of results in Google.

is there anyone on here with experience of this sort of thing or can point me in the right direction

Thanks

How close is your trading name to theirs? Drop me a PM with the names if you can.

Based on your PM, I'd tell them where to go. They basically just want to control a good domain name (that is better than theirs) - don't let them.

Can't believe they've got the blatant cheek to even suggest it. To be honest you could probably get a massive amount of money out of them for the name, but it's up to you whether you think it's worth selling.

Maybe get in touch with [name removed].co.uk and [nameremoved].com and see if they've been approached as well.

ok one more guess, it's Heart Internet and you are using Fart Internet?:D

My guess is that the company is related to an elephant? ;)

OK sussed but I don't really want the name posted here for obvious reasons.

Thanks to the members for the help I have received via PM.

Tell them to DRS you, and remember to keep ALL correspondence. Alternatively, sell it to me :)

Why if you've not done anything wrong? You're apparently being bullied so tell all...

View post history then WHOIS one of the domains, the registrar tag will reveal all. :)

Back to the original topic, your website doesn't look anything like theirs and the comment they have made about turning a blind eye if you resell their services sounds as if it is, or is bordering on, blackmail.

He don't wanna tell. Why should he? If he wanna sell - I will buy if he's intimidated. No need to stick your righteous oar in (again).

Amen ..............

It looks like all the domain names have been edited out. I wasn't glued to a computer at the time of the original posts.

Wasn't referring to domains being shown in this thread, more to previous posts made by the original poster in other threads. ;)

After I clicked submit, I thought what I posted would get you back out of your chair. I'm sure he's capable of answering for himself, so you can back to watching 60 minute makeover. :p
Your hubris becomes ever more underwhelming. Tip: Think before you post about or concerning me. I bite back.

A whois on thenuts co uk will reveal all to anyone interested.

I do not want the companies name posted here as it may work against me.
I feel I have a lot at stake here.
I am not yet at war and if I can fend off the attack with out too much hostility then I will.

Thanks, but it didn't help me :), all I see are numerous names for sale when checking previous posts, none of which help me in my understanding of who the company is who contacted the original poster.

Look at the registrar section of thenuts whois, look at the domain there. Now think what other big host has that first word in its domain. Infact if you google the phrase in that domain they will come up!

Anyway... onto the topic at hand.

Don't resell there services. That just gives them more reason to say your 'passing off as them' - Just politely decline and see where you go from there.

They have no claim to this domain.
