Sadly the .uk proposal does not make the agenda at all at 2013 UK-IGF event is due to take place on Tuesday 10th September

http://ukigf.org.uk/uk-igf-2013-draft-agenda/

Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey MP is confirmed as a keynote speaker.
Other leading commentators from politics, academia, civil society and industry will also contribute to the debate and help to influence the next global Internet Governance Forum.

There are still places available if you would like to attend.

IGF is:
UK Internet Governance Forum

The UK Internet Governance Forum is a collaborative partnership between Nominet, the UK Department for Culture, Media & Sport,
key parliamentarians and other organisations taking a leading role in making the internet a better place.

Its aim is to provide a local forum in the UK that engages industry, government, parliament,
academia and civil society in debate on Internet Governance issues.
As well as encouraging partnerships and coalitions that deliver solutions and demonstrate best practice for others to learn from.

My question to Nominet

After looking at the DRAFT agenda for the day, I was very disappointed and surprised to find no debate on direct.uk.

Perhaps you could consider adding .uk domain names as it is such an important topic as in the words of the Nominet CEO on her blog “.uk is the biggest change to the UK internet since it began”.

Nominet quick response:

Thank you for your email. Nominet is a partner in the UK-IGF and we are sponsoring the UK-IGF event next week. However, it is not a Nominet event. As you will note from the agenda, the topics of discussion are wider than the .uk name space and the event is designed to prepare UK stakeholders for the global IGF in October. Therefore it would not be appropriate for the topic of direct.uk to be on the agenda. Nominet is already running a series of events to discuss the consultation.

Seems like Nominet's response is both logical and reasonable. The UK-IGF event was never advertised as being a "Nominet event" so why should they be entitled to hijack the agenda?

crept on ?

With a full day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 different topics, as .uk is so important to the UK economy and security,
I though it might have crept on to the agenda in some small way?

Especially as I cannot see details for the 2013 Annual UK policy forum.

http://www.nominet.org.uk/how-participate/events/annual-uk-policy-forum

and the .uk Round table meetings held by Nominet do not attempt to create a debate around the .uk proposal.

I have provided the Nominet explanation in full and agree it is valid and reasonable.

However I see the meeting as a lost opportunity to gather observations and commentary
that may help develop the UK namespace via .uk in the correct direction (whatever that maybe)
from the interested parties that attend.

Too busy building the anti-porn smokescreen to talk about anything else. It's topical and if anything the proposed forced changes to net neutrality and proactive censorship are a far bigger threat to the UK internet than a poxy tld.
