Not sure if anybody would be interested but I've put on my site a tool to check the UK whois on bulk (50 at a time) for the status of domain names, i.e. suspended, detagged, etc. I wrote the script because I just couldn't find anything similar that did what I wanted.

Any comments would be welcome even if you think it's crap.

Please note that NOTHING is logged.

Very nice mate, bookmarked instantly! - is it using the DAC to get the results as it seems very fast. If its using the normal whois server then I would slow it down or you will def. be busting the 1 query per sec limit.

Looks good too.

Cheers, Grant

Thanks Grant, I didn't realise there was a limit on the general public whois so I've now added a 1 second delay for each domain name searched.

Been looking for something like this for ages now.

Great tool - Book marked !

Thanks

Just added another tool. This one converts a sentence of words into their corresponding .co.uk domain name which is then bulk searched on the UK whois.

Again I have had to limit it to 1 domain search per second.

Hope you like it.

Nice tool, If a domain is shown up as free, instead of showing it as "UNREGISTERED" why don't you show "Register it Now!" as a hyperlink to a 123-reg affilliate URL.

That's very handy indeed. I think a lot of people will find this useful being able to do bulk whois saves a lot of time, I know I will. Good work, and thanks for sharing it.

Sorry, I've had to take the whois script offline for a while as I need to update the code because Nominet have just added extra fields in the whois, and my code needs to now reflect this.

Yes I understand mate, I could see it struggling this morning when Nominet had change the fields.

Its like the old saying

" You dont know what you have got until its gone "

:( :D

Cheers!

Will the script be updated to use Whois2?, as this will allow you/us to query the server more.

Looks like this fits into the Whois2 category perfectly :)

I am not a Nominet member (jesus, try saying that when you're pissed), so as far as I know I'm not allowed access to Whois2, and I believe Invincible is correct in his assumption.

you don't need to be nominet member.. if you provide a whois query service for your customers..... you can apply...

The WHOIS2 won't allow YOU to do any more queries. It's merely for those wanting to operate a WHOIS proxy service without getting their own IP banned. You, as a customer with an IP address, using a WHOIS2 proxy operated by another party, are still subject to the WHOIS1 limits of 1000 queries per rolling 24 hours. That 1000 limit is the total number of queries made by an IP address using any combination of the WHOIS1 and one or more WHOIS2 proxies. So don't think you can do 1000 direct with Nominet via the WHOIS1, then another 1000 through one or more WHOIS2 proxies to increase the limit. You cannot. This is how I have read it and what I have understood. If I am wrong Jay Daley, please correct me. However I am pretty certain I am correct.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Apart from the 1 query per second limit applied to WHOIS then at the moment, what other limits are enforced now/in the future?

As I understand it from your post, Nominet will be enforcing a 1000 per 24 hour period from each IP?, but this limit can't be active yet as I have queried the WHOIS with 30,000 domains at 1/second quite a few times.

Does that mean I can now remove the 1 second delay on my whois script which by the way is up and running now.

Just a note to let you know that I've added an extra column onto the results which now includes Overture with extension for the domain name being searched.
