In version one Nominet .uk consultation there were approx 800 repondents, my best guess would be 200 who are members of this forum and 200 more from those that read articles, blogs, tweets that members here posted and then got involved by supplying feedback to Nominet.

With the lack of apathy about V2 .uk and its consultation and lack of media coverage.

I was wondering what intentions where on supplying feedback on .uk to Nominet on V2?

Have completed feedback

Will complete feedback before 13th Septemeber.

Undecided

Feed up of .uk and will not be responding

Not responding for other reasons

Sorry did not press buttons properly and this is not in poll format.

Note the deadline for feedback is 23 September, not 13 September.

I will definitely be putting in a response, but not until much closer to the deadline - probably after the Adtech/domainer get-together.

.nz second consultation attracted 45 submissions (110 in the first) with approx 50% in favour of it happening. The ones in favour tended to be "unknown" with short replies of one word, YES.

Whole thing is a waste of time - Nominet will do what Nominet want to do anyway?

I know what you mean, but surely, just like in a general election, the right to have your say is valuable.
A consultative procedure means the decision isn't entirely arbitrary.

I might be in a minority but I don't share the opinion that this is being done so that Nominet directors and staff get a big pay day or any other ulterior motive.

Agreed, this is a nightmare for the Nominet staff and some of the directors surely.

They ditched this idea in the past, it puts the .org.uk and .co.uk brands at risk and throws a stable and thriving industry into turmoil. As Lesley Cowley stated, the direct.uk initiative is not one of her bonus targets. If, like Emily, she contributed to proposing her own targets, that says a lot.

For normal businesses, the threat of the new gTLDs is a time for steady ship, to present the .co.uk and .org.uk domains as a safe haven in the noise of new promises on the horizon. NOT the time to show panic and change.

This is good for Thomas, Dickie and the rest of the top 17. The election result shows a pattern of voting that suggests coordination.

Dickie admitted when pressed at the AGM that although they didn't vote, they fed into and contributed to the direct.uk initiative. Does anybody recall them declaring their conflict of interest to the members? According to a Barrister's opinion they are supposed to do that.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but in this instance it doesn't apply for the simple reason that nominet doesn't pay dividends to its shareholders, it doesn't require profit infact its very nature is non-profit, its designed to run for the public good and has a pool of cash with steady income, so growth doesn't and shouldn't apply here.

I think it's being done because these days, success seems to be measured by growth and this constant need for growth puts undue pressure on senior management. Nominet are no different.

Agree. So why is Nominet looking for other revenue channels like being a Registry operator for other extensions? Seems crazy for Nominets mandate. The board seems to be on a commercialisation ego trip.

Or grab the money and get out plan.

To be fair, I might not agree with direct.uk but ultimately management are there to make these kinds of decisions.

The thing that worries me most where Nominet are concerned, is that senior management don't seem to be accountable for their actions, so my question would be, who is going to be held responsible if direct.uk goes ahead and is a huge unmitigated disaster.

I wonder who is going to be held responsible because it is already a disaster.

It's been a bit like government confiscating everyone's possessions so as to promote a consumer boom.

Yes I agree with this.

No ones as when it has gone through they will have left with there bonuses and left the rebuilding of the brand to the new board members.

They should really look at launching totally new extensions, .gb / .en / .gfy rather than .uk, wales and scotland have theirs going, so shouldn't england and northern ireland and leave .ext.uk alone ?

Solves all the problems then.
