Ok for a bit of fun . If you have recieved a funny domain enquiry let us know then we can all see exaclty what people type to try and get the domain at rock bottom prices :).

Please dont list and names or companies but you can list the domain name in question fi you want.

My latest domain enquiry:

Sorry not to be an authority but you do realise that you would be in violation of nominets abusive registration policy http://www.nominet.org.uk/disputes/d...veregistration

A. for the purposes of selling, renting or otherwise
transferring the Domain Name to the Complainant
or to a competitor of the Complainant, for valuable
consideration in excess of the Respondent’s
documented out-of-pocket costs directly associated
with acquiring or using the Domain Name;

The above is from paragraph 3 of the policy that the site refers to.

I’m not going to open a dispute as I don’t have the time nor am I like that. I only know all this due to having to help a client through it all. It does bother me when domain names have been brought for the purpose of selling on for a profit though.

This domain name is for a personal project. I do have other ideas i can use as names but i like this one the most. I did offer £25 not £20. £10 is to cover the 2 years hosting you would have just paid out for and the £15 is more than enough to cover the cost of transferring the registered name over to me (nominets fee for this is £10 plus vat).

Nice one :D

Funniest... hmmmm, I don't know if it was funny but last year I've recieved something like "We could offer you £40 which is a very good price...". Well, I was impressed by the generosity (surplus generic industial, huh!). I did sell it to the same person... for 2K.

My partner got an email from a division one football club sales and marketing director stating his job was title only and he was unpaid, just did it for the love of the club.

His emails started out in broken english, and soon as he messed up and included his signature (inc contact details and disclaimer) suddenly his punctuation and grammar improved 1000%, but the lies continued.

I'll have to see if I can get the actual emails sent over from my partners email.

i've had loads of "start ups" thinking that qualifies them to get things on the cheap :p

Had a few give me the you only paid £x for it... but the best one was one who had obviously done some digging on me and found out about my rally car and even the history of the car. He went to the trouble of engaging conversation about that and other general stuff, found out the info about the domain he wanted including the traffic and affiliate conversions. Then came out with the old you only paid £6 so ill make it a clean £20. The guy knew it makes more than that every quarter sat on storeburst. Crazy.

I got this one last week.

We can ask the Scottish Government to proceed to have the domain freed. Because if we took this name as you have done it would have cost the registration fee only. Our Government have moved to free many domains for charitable organisations that others have acquired with the sole purpose of profiteering.

Or the "kids" who want the domain name for "a school project" :D

Wifes anniversary

Sons birthday

Charitable project

University project

Or this peach recently for a short dictionary word that is also a surname which I've previously turned down mid xxxx offers.

"Comment: I offer 10 GBP a year for this site for 3 years whereupon on a fee of a further £50 I will buy outright!

after having a £50 offer rejected.

I have no issue if you are running a business and the domain is indicative of your business but why are you buying domains that you don’t have a business application for other than as an “investment”?

You are holding a business start-up to ransom by doing this.

hmmm... got caught by that one this year. Checked later and it's being used for a 'commercial project'.

Now I just ignore any 'reason'. Same deal across the board.

You fell for the student project one? I got that and I just ignored it. I think most of us had that one this year. Sedo spammer!

I have actually bought domains as presents but last one it STILL sat in my nom account because the tool is moaning bout the trans fee (was an L-L too).

So sometimes its a real reason :p

The ones that get me at the people who make they know nothing and then start trying to swap names with you :p

I had a "hobby project" request. I never ever make any distinction between uses. Cost is cost, I cannot offer a Ferrari for a cheaper price because the potential owner wish to look at and not drive it.

In the "early days" I used to sometimes get caught out by "excuses". Now, I price my names up front and quote the list price (with a link to the full price list) to everyone no matter what fluff they're put in to pad their price request. I always answer even if it sounds like they have no money at all, as a couple of times that's flushed out the "real" buyer who was just trying it on as they pretty much had to have the domain name, no matter what...

I was once offered £500 for a domain which I use for a site which makes £xx,xxx's per annum, with a now modest amount of work.

I just got

They also made an offer of '£fuck you in GBP (£) (currency).

They included a REAL email with a facebook account attached too :p

The other day I got

domain 'bomb.co.uk' with the message:

Hi,i'm a retard and i plan on destroying your house. please may you supply me with lots of bombs

They also made an offer of '£9999 in GBP (£) (currency).

At least you guys are getting offers :p
