I can't quite decide if this is a decent sale or not! A comment in another sales thread said it went too cheaply, but this is not a particularly common spelling of the name. Maybe this spelling will be become more popular with Ms Brady appearing regularly on the Apprentice??

I think it's a great buy if your name is Karren... as when a domain comes up like that its probably your one and only chance to buy it - if another Karren gets it its never likely to be on the market again.

I bet someone with some time on their hands could have made some cash by buying that and going through the phone book and contacting them all.

The good thing is that it'll be quicker to phone round all the Karrens in the country, rather than all the Karens. I'm not sure how reliable these figures are, but here are the number of people in the UK called the following names -

Karen - 234,264
Karin - 4,697
Caron - 3,559
Karan - 1,711
Karon - 1,654
Karyn - 1,261
Caren - 1,099
Caryn - 619
Karren - 477

This info makes me think the seller has got a good price!

(If anyone wants to dispute these figures, then please do so!!)

I don't agree (with the good price, not the numbers).

Assuming the numbers are correct, only one of those 477 people can have an email address directly matching up with their name. I wonder if a snail mail/phone call to all of the 477 could have got at least a couple of them bidding on it.

You don't need them all interested - only 2 of those 477 karrens need to have a decent job and money to get £500+. Or only 1 if you send it out as a fixed price, first one gets it - that might panic them into buying before they lose it.

I don't know about you, but if I was looking for a personal email address, I would go for my surname, rather than my first name. Now that's maybe just my personal preference?

If I were to start a company using my name, then it would be my surname, rather than my first name. I would imagine that to be the case with most? If that is the case with the majority, then not only are you selling a surname to a person, but also a potential company name.

So, personally, I would put more value on a surname, especially one with more people out there!

I'd definitely put more value on a surname - but thats not particularly relevant to the forename going cheaply (imo).

I'd happily pay £500 for my name, but mine is a 3 letter so I guess they'd want more. I'd pay double I guess for my surname (which is gone too).

I was using it as a comparison. You can see many more popular surnames going on AD for a lot less than £115.

I think that pretty much sums it up. In that regard, it would actually be quite nice to have an uncommon name :).
