How do cookies work?
Would the following work? although i take it not allowed?

If I went on amazon for example from a site of mine and therefore got a cookie created on my pc. If I then took that cookie and put it on another pc would I then get credited with sales generated from that second pc?

People are always trying to trick, con defraud whatever you like to call it affiliate, PPC etc, Its feasible there are exploits in software, bogus software and other tricks etc but the vast majority of (if not all of them) just end up with the person trying to do the conning getting conned themselves… If someone created a way to do so successfully without chance of being discovered do you think they would let anyone know ….?

Your better of trying to create a site that list well, unique content etc than other ways

Even if you put that cookie on another PC, you would still have to pay with your bank details. Amazon would see this and render the commission invalid I believe.

I don't think you get what i mean.
The reason i asked was I had a server engineer come in to my company and we got talking about affiliate websites and i explained how they worked.
He said that he works at various companies every day and what would stop him dumping a cookie on each pc he worked on? He would then get commission if that person went onto the merchants site and bought something within the next 30 days. Each sale would come from different buyers. I couldn't answer that.

Many people have used and tried exploiting cookies etc its not that hard and you don’t need to physically go there either to get the cookie onto there machine…?

People have tried this in universities, college’s, cyber cafes etc

Things like evercookie, zombie cookies are one of the newer exploits and possibly if they are modified they could be created in such away may work indefinably but as quick as you create something someone cracks exploits it someone creates something new… and there is always a trail….

How do cookies work?

I find that rich tea are much better than cookies ,cookies tend to absorb the tea much quicker and break and thus rushing to the kitchen for a spoon to remove the cookie for it is too late, now the hobnobs are a superior biscuit and hold there shape much better and resist falling to pieces, so the answer to your question is they don't....:D

cookies...."drule"

cookies...."drule"

i must resist....

I'm sure merchants would query why they were getting multiple sales from different locations with the same cookie - they are date stamped with the time so it's easy to identify in an affiliates account.

Now to redeem myself from my offtopic banter:

Based on that, what if you edited the hosts file to make it load your affiliate link (which would 'set' the cookie) when they type in the retailers address - This is purely theoretical though :D

please feel free to start your own non serious thread rather than F*ck mine up then.

If you worked on a helpdesk at a large company, chances are you'd have global local admin rights so could do it. If you had access to your proxy servers you could lookup the main users of ebay for example and put cookies on their machines?

Actually if your work proxy is natted out on one ip like mine is, then what happens? if for example you sent an email around with offers using your affiliate link and you got a load of sales, would the merchant honour that? surely not as everything is natted as coming from one address?

So let me get this straight.

You are going on an affiliate forum and asking how to... defraud other affiliates? Am I missing anything?

Ultimately if you do something along the lines of stuffing cookies you're stopping other affiliates get their rightful payments, so I don't see why anyone here would want to help you with this little venture :)

Is this a serious thread....your serious about wanting commission from your own affilliate site....is it really worth the few quid for shafting the hand that feeds you,i knew someone that did the same thing with one of the bigger affiliaite schemes and he got the £2.75 commission but they withheld his £1850 monthly commission when they found out...now ask yourself if it is worth the hassle....are times that hard

Why would you go to the trouble of installing the SAME cookie on multiple machines, If you have access to several machines isn't it easier to just follow the link "legitimatey" on each machine thereby setting a unique cookie on each?

I thought that, but the net admin guy maybe able to distribute to all the machines in the network - which would be easier.

However, I was thinking that you would want the cookie there permanently. So set it up that whenever you load amazon etc, it goes through your site using there hosts file.

Please note: This is PURELY theoretical, I would never do this as its fraud.
