Changes today...

Anyone noticed any changes in Google rankings today?

Biggest changes I've felt for a while.

Some up / some down

Some keyword rankings for me have stayed the same, others have gone down by the looks of it.

All websites have had link building neglected on them for a while though... best get started again. :)

some up some down. Looks like google are also changing the title tags they index.. hmm.

One of my page titles is showing in Google in the following format...

Keyword 1 - Keyword 2 - Keyword 2 | Website Name

It should be displayed as just...

Keyword 2 | Website Name

Haven't got a clue why it's not showing correctly, the other keyword isn't even on the page as a heading/title. :?

Do a few sites link to the site using keyword 1? On occasion I've had the page title show up as often linked anchor text in google, rather than the actual title.

Looks like one massive google dance is going on at the moment. I would give it the rest of the week to settle down untill you start to get worried :)

Is your site listed in Dmoz?

Google could be pulling the title from there?

Nope, and it's an internal page too. Can't see any anchors using that as a title either, so it's quite strange!

As the title on this internal page is a keyword and the website name quite short(a lot of my titles are short and to the point for click through)

At a guess are the extra added words, also in the title of the home page?

If no have you always owned the domain? Prevous history maybe?

Homepage has a different title, and the website name is a few words long so not short either. Haven't always owned the domain but I don't think this page existed on it before, think I'll just have to put up with it. :)

I have no idea about your title problem, sounds strange. But I've noticed recently with G that it places emphasis on previously visited sites (may be becuase I'm logged in) so I now check rank on a variety of browers and search tools as I don't really trust it anymore!

That's because you've got Google web history enabled.

You can disable it and then you'll see results with no previous history bias.

I thought there was something like that but I couldn't find it anywhere. It's not in settings or advanced search options, where do I find it?

1) Sign out from your google account
2) Go to google.co.uk
3) perform a search
4) Top right hand corner click "web history"
5) Turn it off

Keep an eye on it, it does have a habit of turning itself back on.

You'll know when this is, all of your sites will be in the top 3 :)
