Hello,

I jumped in at the deep end and registered my first two names.

Code:
DiningRoom
DiningRooms

Could you please give me some feedback on a ballpark undeveloped? I'd be looking to develop them into an affiliate site rather then 'flip' them. It's just nice to have two sides of the coin.

Could someone also recommend a good affiliate program?

Rgds,

Jack

You give storeburst.co.uk a try but be patient with it ;)

Reseller value = reg fee and end user could be hard to find ?

Not bad for your first effort so keep at it

Cheers for the link. I figured as much regarding the low ball figure, though as I said it's a project to get me started.

It won't be long before I start investing in some nice generics to develop, should prices be right.

I disagree wrt the prices, I think the names are not at all bad, and are definitely worth more than reg fee.

Ah conflicting ideas. I guess it comes down to one man's junk is another man's gold.

Out of interest, do you think that a domain such as diningroomtables.cctld would be more valuable then diningroom(s).cctld for affiliate purposes?

The reason I ask is the second would surely have more products then the first.

Re diningroomtables.tld, then yes, I'd say for affiliate marketing that name is more targeted and is more valuable, but obviously we all have different views.

Your names are not bad ones though, and they are good finds for reg fee.

IMHO Yes, what are you going to put on DiningRooms.org.uk? Dining Rooms? :)

Sure you could develop DiningRooms.org.uk and put all the products you would find in the dining room on it, but think like someone searching on Google. When they're searching for "dining rooms" what is it that they're actually looking for?

Ok, so you manage to rank it #1 in Google for "dining rooms", the traffic is going to be fairly low value, i.e. they're not looking specifically for "dining room <something>" and therefore your conversion rate is going to be quite low.

Yes you could rank for long tail keywords like "dining room tables" etc, but you're not going to get an exact match bonus by having the domain, so it'll be harder to rank and you'll be competing with established, aged sites...

I'd personally take DiningRoomTables.org.uk over DiningRooms.org.uk anyday if I was going to develop it.

Thank you for your input. It certainly explains why there are low results on the keyword tool.

I was planning on doing what you mentioned re: put all the dining room products on it but if it doesn't work like that then I'm a little snookered.

Also I had an idea of doing something ikea style with a picture of a modern dining room with all the products within the picture. (If you get my drift.) That's probably where people are more likely to search for dining room(s).

Don't get me wrong, they're not a bad set of FTR domains, but I do wonder if they sound better than they are as I'm struggling to think what you could do with them.

Personally from an affiliate development point of view, I think you would spend an awful lot of time building the site with the products and ultimately would end up a bit disappointed.

Perfoming a search on Google for "dining rooms" brings up sites focussed on design ideas and lots of restaurants - No product sites appear on p1 which is a good indication.

Don't be disheartened, it's all a learning curve - At least you're registering half decent domains, you should see some of the cr*p I've registered :)

Edit: Just noticed the 'Ikea' style idea. I agree, that sounds more like what people would be interested in when searching for "dining rooms", but it's much more work to affiliatise that sort of concept than it is a product based affiliate site.
