Know a good catcher?ood drop catcher?

Hi

I'm looking to catch a .co.uk domain name that drops in the next week. I already have it registered with caught, but would prefer to have 2 or 3 to improve my chances. Can anyone recommend a few reliable successful websites they have used recently please?

Does the whois reflect the previous registrant? How do you know they approached them?

The previous registrant was a limited company, as I re-checked at the time of booking. The whois change took place in the last few days (it still reflects it's prenom roots), the domain name is now registered to the catcher, and is on his tag.

Perhaps it's a catcher that registers it in its own name then bills the client at a later date? Have you contacted the catcher for a please explain?

Not contacted him yet. As I say, the Whois still shows it as a prenom, so the catch order has been accepted then ignored, and a private deal must have been done instead.

It was booked via their credit system anyway, not that that should have any bearing on the matter, particularly given that 2-3 days have now passed without hearing from him!

If it's the person I think you mean, they buy loads of domains before renewal. It wouldn't have been specific to your booking request.

If you handed the money over to your solicitor to buy your dream cottage, then you awoke the following morning only to find he'd bought it for himself, you would be really pissed off. I don't see where his past buying habits come into it if he agreed to buy for a member of the public.

Yes, those and more besides. But they're the ones that I know offer a "public" services. Some of the others you'll just have to reach out to over time (like I did) - it's not my place to share their info here (or by PM so no point in asking - no exceptions!) since they've chosen to offer their services selectively rather than widely.

If it didn't "drop" it wasn't "caught".

What I mean by that is that say the domain was due to drop on March 1st. If it gets bought instead on February 29th from the original owner (even if it's by a catcher) who then transfers it to the new owner (note the proactive sale-transfer as opposed to a drop) then there's no breach of any kind of arrangement since the deal that any catcher makes is "IF it drops THEN we will try and catch it for you" not "we will obtain the domain BY ANY MEANS for you".

Lots of catchers approach name owners directly (as do the rest of us) so I don't see anything particularly devious in what you're describing.

Breach or no breach, they won't last long as a public catcher if they carry on like this. Put it down to experience and avoid future dealings with.

I think what Edwin is saying anthony that if the domain is transferred over to you, then there is no problem with that catcher taking that route..unless I'm reading it all wrong. In my opinion since you booked the domain, the catcher should not now try to sell it or ask more from you than your agreed terms.

Edit: Just re-read a few times and seems I'm wrong, that's not what Edwin is saying..which surprises me :S

I'm sure had they not secured the name pre-drop then if they had caught it your order would have been honored, the facts are that the name didn't drop so they couldn't of caught it for you.

In this cut-throat drop market, when it's a given that people are going to try and approach the owners of "interesting" names BEFORE they drop, why should a catcher who also maintains their own portfolio of names not do the same? Doesn't take anything away from their catching service - they're still offering what they promise: IF it drops THEN we will catch it FOR YOU.
