I caught this one today, I think it's an excellent domain, it had been registered since 1998, has some site history here.

Nice domain for a business in the beauty niche for offering any of the multitude of beauty/therapy courses out there, any thoughts on value?

I like it except I've now got that darn song from Grease in my head ;)

Out of curiosity I just went to the hyphenated version to see what was on it and AVG blocked access saying it was a "blackhole exploit kit" threat, whatever the f*ck that is! Strangely the Whois shows that it's been registered to a London beauty school since 1999 though....

I would hold out for at least high £xxx

Should be an easy x,xxx given the number of beauty schools out there (the courses aren't cheap either!)

It's a good name but gut feeling is that it won't be easy to sell at that level. Will be interesting to see if he can. It's a question of whether someone would brand as beautyschool.co.uk.

Plenty of established companies with ____beautyschool.co.uk as their domains. One of them might well bite.

Thanks for your opinions, I was thinking high £xxx to low £x,xxx on sites like Acorn or Domainlore, and upwards from that for any potential end users.

Think I'll just stick it on Sedo and if someone wants it they'll find it there, or anyone can make a decent opening bid for it on Domainlore and I may start an auction there, as Edwin pointed out, plenty of xxxxxbeautyschool.co.uk sites around, cheers.

I don't always practice what I preach, but I hope you don't mind a bit of preaching here ...

I am of the opinion that if you "stick it on Sedo", it will take a very long time, if ever, to sell it. Put it on DomainLore and you won't see optimum value, only a fraction of it.

Best way (but difficult way) to attempt an optimum value sale, is to reseach all the top beauty schools, then send them a letter which makes the case as to why they should buy the name. Then you might luck out with a full value sale. Still quite difficult to make the sale, but it's possible.

Otherwise, my revenue detection senses are telling me this has potential for a developer. Beauty is big business, and think how many young women want to go into beauty in some way for a career. Think instructional videos on the site, then think big business very keen to get their products shifted and direct advertising revenue potential. Also think beauty schools very keen to sign up new pupils on courses (probably quite expensive courses), and think of the custom lead generation potential. I wouldn't want to develop this myself, because it's not my thing, but I can see how it could be done and this domain is superb for branding. Getting it right won't be easy, and will be a lot of hard work will be required, but I see the glimmer of potential.

    Good luck with it.

If you do go down that route, perhaps try and "quantify" the size of the school (based on their info, and if they're a Ltd company, their filed accounts using something like Duedil.com) and then narrow the list down to the top 8-10 candidates.

Then send them a letter that lists all the people you're contacting, in alphabetic order, so that they're aware that they're "competing" for the domain. Indicate that you are contacting all potentially interested parties at the same time, and the first that says "yes" to your asking price of _____ gets the domain.

At the extreme top-end of the scale, something like http://www.mysummercamps.com/ but for beauty schools might be a huge money spinner, once the effort to collate information about all the schools in the UK and present it in a meaningful, comparative way has been undertaken.

Some cheeky chaps would phone the last owner up and see if there still trading if so they'd ask if they have a web site might ring some bells for them and you might get an email offering to buy it they had it all those years they may want it ;-)

Spot on, and those are the things I do most of the time, if I don't get the right offer on here, I usually stick them on Sedo, just because it's free and easy to do so, just the odd one goes on Domainlore.

I'm useless at writing to people/companies, I've tried several times to write something convincing, but I tend to go on and on trying to give as much info as possible as to why it's a good name for them to own, that it ends up running in to multiple paragraphs, so then I leave it there and don't contact anyone.

Yes, it's a very big industry, and one which will only continue growing, with no shortage of women wanting to take courses to go self employed or in to normal jobs in salons etc

I watched a programme about a young UK woman, probably aged about 18, she started doing make-up instructional videos to post on YouTube, and she gained a huge following on there, which lead to a big US manufacturer starting her own range of make-up to sell, she was raking it in.

I think this domain could do well if it was used for something similar, but it's not really my niche :) I suppose it wouldn't be impossible to find someone who would be willing to make similar videos but, that would mean me actually doing something instead of sitting on my arse doing nothing, and I'm bloody lazy when it comes to domains.

I think they would have kept it if they had wanted it, I know who used to own it before it dropped, it was the Mary Reid International School of Beauty, they run this site: www.maryreidspaacademy.com

That's definitely good advice for someone who was looking to go down that route, Edwin, if someone felt they would like to try and broker me a deal with any company, I'm all ears if they want to do the leg work/research and contact potential end users, what's the going rate, about 10% of final sale price?

Yes, I could see how something like that might work, not just another boring directory of site links but, something with a load of good content, videos etc alongside the directory, again, not the sort of site I could make myself, mainly due to my lack of site making skills, and I hate spending money on domain stuff apart from the actual domain itself.

    Nice catch.

Would be a very good domain for a blogger that has a bit of money to spend on a domain.

Reading things like this makes me want to get into drop catching.
