Opinions and suggestions welcome for a new nearly completed site: http://www.distros.co.uk. There's a couple of sections to add. e.g. faq & contact and the footer to format, but the core of the site is done.

It's based on WP3.4 and is the first in a number of sites using the WP-RAD custom post-type and taxonomy framework I've developed. It uses the cutting edge WP core to produce complex WP sites quickly.

The framework - along with an additional menu generation addon - will be used for the next version of the iCodes for Wordpress plugin as well as domainstudio and others in the pipeline.

Developing this and a few other sites as showcase sites and to hammer out any framework issues.

Mobile version looks odd! Can't find a link to the full website?

It's trying to be a responsive design I think Ben, it's just not quite there yet :) Looks odd on my iphone.

Thanks,

Craig

I have a bit of code to remove the responsive design from Genesis sites if you need it.

It'll be semi responsive when finished. I've focussed on the 1024+ size so far. I'll tweak the @media sections when the pages & footers are done.

Stick to the look & feel of the laptop/tablet+ sized screens until then.

more green colour in lower boxes and text would do to keep the balance

As I mentioned. Not sorted the footer yet. That's likely to have some of the green.

And it's not pinky-purple, it's royal purple! :)

Sorted most of the responsive format issues. Just a few to go.

Pretty much done now apart from filling in a few pages & the faq. Footer sections complete in mainly secondary colour to complemnt the main "pinky-purple".

Most of responsive issues sorted should look ok in tablets (1024) & phones though layout is the linear 1 column look.

Maybe it's because I'm not a techie, but the first screen I saw didn't give me a clue as to what your site is about - what you are selling/promoting and why look at your site. Once I started scrolling down, the "learn about linux" made a bit more sense.

Personally, I'd give your site some form of prominent tagline - eg "the best place to learn about linux" and move the top right ads into a slightly less prominent position so that you can use this key space to get your message across rather than sell someone else's site. A visual might also be nice.

Hope this helps.:)

Not sure if that's required. The intended demographic visiting the site would by definition know what the site is about - i.e. enquiring about linux & the latest distros. I've also not finished the meta tag/data sections yet, so that woul come across as sparse atm.

In the long term there will be enhanced details, faq's & distro dvd sales.

Nonetheless I think it still wants a bit more text /expalanation above the fold. - just my opinion

Better? Added sidebar info block. Increased grid display to compensate.

Certainly on my largish widescreen that looks better.
Does the search box need to be so big?

Fair point. search reduced in line with menu & logo size, and menu/logo repositioned a bit.

Probably no more changes to structure. Fill in the pages etc now.
