I'd be interested if anyone could place a value on the domain beforeyouinsure.com

I thought it was quite brandable for an insurance comparison type site or blog. I'm new to domaining, have sold perhaps only 10 domains (average for about £500 so just getting started really, any thoughts on this domain are most welcome!)

Domain as is $0, sorry. No global / local exact monthly searches at all. Can't see any possible brand as well. Maybe develop a site to compare insurance companies. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I registered it exactly for that purpose, to create an affiliate blog but never did it. I guess it doesn't have a market value but possibly a "I want that name for my new site" value.

I'd say "You hope they want the name for there new site value"

@namealot

Yes exactly (hence the use of the word 'possibly' :)

It's the sort of name that will gather dust until/unless someone suddenly decides the want it, a bit like everythingeverywhere.co.uk

So it's not going to sell to a domainer :)

@namealot

Firstly, I registered to use it not to sell it but was curious about any opinions on value.

Secondly, why so catty? Sounds like you may be talking from bitter experience?

I actually think the domain is quite apt and memorable for an insurance comparison site. (and given it's the stronger .com)

Lots of work - but a pretty good domain if somebody chose to run with it.

I note "B4Uinsure.com" has been registered since 2004 - haven't checked to see if it has any history of usage etc. I prefer your text only version

@Bailey

Thanks for your input. I agree that it's quite a good brand for a comparison site or blog, but really a case of sitting tight until someone stumbles up who wants it, if ever. I've sold worse domains!

I wouldn't recommend asking about 'brandable' .com valuations on here in general. There's a good bunch of people but it's not many heres niche

I think it's got a nice ring and would be a good development project. I don't think there is much value though as a standalone domain. Good luck!

Of course its from experience there will not be one person that regs names that hasn’t registered rubbish and likely will still register more when its only cot £3 a pop its inevitable.

I try among other things to say would I pay 500. 1000 etc to register name as a that’s really the minimum you should be looking at selling names for unfortunately “brand” is used often to heap a hole pile of crap together?

Very few domains are sold as “brands “ because the buyers not going to give you that info and watch the price rise, There often short easy to remember but not necessarily commercial or descript of what they sell? or used under there real meaning e.g. three orange apple etc

You will get PR type gimmicky ones meercat types if you could register what you wanted then the obvious to go for are not ones that describe what they are wesellcheapinsurance sorts there will be exception but not as many as are regged and touted as potential “Brand” domains :)

Well I've never sold anything in .com apart from standalone domains . And one or two on Acorn know how well that has rewarded me over the years. It does take a certain business/marketing Acumen to be able to pull them out of the bag - but they are there to be had - even today if your prepared to put the work in.

Some people don't know or understand the different parameters that operate at dot com level. I've tried to explain some of the fundamentals before, but it falls on deaf ears for those looking for 'exacts' or only know the uk market.

The domain "BeforeYouInsure.com' has legs in .com And of course It wouldn't even rise above ground ZERO as a .co.uk.

To say that 'Brand' is used to heap a whole pile of shit together demonstrates a certain naivety in what is a very profitable Global market.

I can't begin to tell you how much it pleases me to know that most domainers have no idea how to put . Product and Marketing together (I accept that 'Branding' on the whole hasn't had much ground or history to build on in the .co.UK domain market)

This is interesting and I think very well put. I came from a copywriting/branding background before I started in affiliate marketing so perhaps I see things other than just in terms of how keyword rich and built for seo/ppc a domain might be. That's not to say I wouldn't love a short, keyword domain in a great category first and foremost, but just that perhaps there are other markets out there too for domains. It's a different game though.

what's to stop someone now registering

beforebuyinginsurance.com

and stealing your thunder ?

Nothing, but I don't think that's how it works. The brandable element (if you believe there is one) is the rhyming aspect, or the 'ring to it' as Marcoose put it earlier. beforebuyinginsurance.com is just a deadpan name.

I do take your point but it is too slight to hang your hat on.

BeforeInsuring.com is available.

Comparethemarket dot com couldn't have gained traction without millions spent on advertising.

A nice brandable name in my opinion. Brandables are the way forward it's a shame that not many members of Acorn and UK domainers in general recognise that yet it seems.
