Straightforward way to 'value' a domain?

Hi everyone.

I'm sure everyone has different ways of valuing a domain, but is there a simple, basic formula for it? For example, CPC+exact matches+other basic stats=?? Or am I totally off the mark here? (This is the new domainers section afterall ;) )

Also, am I right in thinking that the formula (if there is one) will not apply to brandable and/or end user names.

No, and the way you have described it above shows that there is no simple formula.
 
Indeed, there is no simple (or even complex) formula to valuing a domain.* The sale price has just as much to do with negotiating skills as anything else.

* for domainer sales for exact match domains. exacts and cpc will give you and indicator to "Ball park" figure but, don't expect that to have much bearing on end-user sales
 
I don't really know anything but..

Some domains are just worth something regardless of cpc or any of that just for how nice they are as brand name.

For instance recently I really liked the domain names cosmic.co.uk and baron.co.uk, they dropped in the last month.

^ I think they both sold on domainlore for a few hundred each, they had nothing much about them apart from just really nice short brandable names.. I would have loved cosmic, really really nice name for a website.
 
For buying use “how much ?” Selling use “no offers ?”

+1 when in desperate need of a sale - STALL, least the buyer knows about your desperate situation the better.

+2 When not in need of a sale. Work on a price of that luxury holiday you promised yourself, and don't forget the bar-bill.

Yes, there is an extremely complex way of valuating a domain -- so complex, in fact, that the formula (if ever concocted) would be too laborious to ever implement correctly.

Watch what sells for what. Then it's down to educated guesswork.
 
Yes, Bailey, I agree with what you say about negotioating skills having as much to do with sale price as anything else, and what you say you say about domainer sales and exacts and cpc having no bearing on end-user sales, thanks for your reply.

I agree DarrenH, I also think some cool, short brandable names are worth something regardless. Cheers.
