There are so many ways to make money online I cannot understand why anyone with motivation and ideas doesn't do it. I seem to have a new idea every few days but there are not enough hours in the day to do them all. My thought today was... how many people have actually tried to secure a LLL.com from a company that doesn't use it or need it. OK, there's 17000 names to go at but so what....its like the question how do you eat an elephant...one bite at a time. Mmm. Anyway, firing off a standard email to old dilapidated sites that live at an LLL.com could yield some bites from people who might find a couple of grand very useful.

Because these domains are inundated with emails making offers.

Someone posted a link in a thread a little while ago...... can't remember where or who (Bugger!), but it was to tumblr for something like 'url .com is not for sale' and listed a number of the emails they had received, offering anything from a few grand up.

I think anyone trying to buy a 3 letter .com with an email blast either has everything automated, and time to spare, or a screw loose (no offence if you've spent hours doing this)

I have thought about trying this too, however as spider says, I quickly reached the conclusion that every man and their dog has already contacted each and every one of the LLL.com owners already!

I am sure it is a well trodden path - trying to unearth valuable domains with low prices, replies with a price will inevitably be based on published high prices of domains sold.

It would be a different story if you could find a motivated seller, someone in urgent need of funds and limited options to choose from. Still a formidable challenge but a more targeted approach is likely to yield better results.

I have bought names like this. Sometimes it's just a case of being in the right place and the right time, where a website is unloved and no longer needed - and cash is suddenly welcome for whatever reason.

Don't see that happening with an lll.com, but certainly with unloved niche sites lower down the scale.

I know people who own 3LD .com who get over 10,000 speculative emails in a year. It's been mined to death and the seam licked clean.

Didnt the guy with Germany.com or maybe another country name post that its not for sale and list some of the emails too ?

You can 2,000,000 other people are all playing william tell at the low hanging fruit. The idea works on the less travelled path though :)

I agree with the sentiment, if not the example

I have no education to speak of beyond terrible GSCE grades and have only got experience working in shops in my teens/early 20's, but the internet is the great leveller

The last few years I've made more with sites, adsense and domains than I would have got working any full time job id be qualified for, and that's with basically "working" close to no hours per week

^ Not trying to brag of course, I know people on here do a lot better than me, but then I am pretty lazy.

As long as you have a computer and internet you can make money

But then, it does occur to me, maybe my brain is just wired to be able to do well with this type of stuff, maybe you're just born with an entrepreneurial mind

Maybe asking someone to repeat what I've done is like asking random people to sing and expecting everyone to have a great voice; we aren't all born with the same gifts

This is the nail on the head.

I think in everything there is an element of luck and timing. Also about your mind set and current resources available, be those resources people, money or assets.

I didn't start off domaining with any money really, had under £100 in the bank

I was pretty lucky to begin with though, I caught some SEO domains with public catchers, made enough selling them to pay for Nom membership and a years hosting with Dale @ dropsystem

Well, I say lucky but I did make my own luck somewhat by researching domains with SEO value and booking them at first opportunity at the stroke of midnight with public drop catchers

Luck is important, but you have to put yourself in the right position to get the rub

So it was you booking them all up before I woke :D Our stories are freakishly similar Murray... right down to the whole public catchers > Nom membership > DropSystem > own script (which I guess you are doing now) path. Did you also, like me, initially start with wallowing in the mud at Warrior Forum before getting in to domaining?? My massive stroke of luck was insolvency .co.uk caught with DropSystem, but like you say you do make your own luck with trawling drop lists, checking SEO metrics, booking early etc.And now with the work that goes in to script tweaking.

The UK domaining and internet marketing / affiliate industries are still absolutely ripe for picking, we should all be very thankful that 95% (or more...) of the world only care about trying to crack .com / the US. Thinking about it... delete this thread quick!

Close lol

Years ago my brother needed someone to do SEO for his business, wasn't happy with the company he hired, I was jobless, knew nothing about SEO but he let me have a crack at it, £75 a month or something like that

He was paying his previous SEO person £250 a month and it turned out all he was doing was editing the text on some landing pages every now and again, swapping out words, "keeping things fresh" lol, £250 to edit some words..

So I started off on an SEO forum, seochat, some time later someone mentioned using expiring domains for their SEO value, so I looked into that, learned about how much money you could make just with good co.uk names so wanted a piece of that pie, joined here and now here we are
