i'm just curious as to know how a dropcatcher is built, what program is it created in to make it fastest, i've heared ruby is fastest but many do it in PHP.

What does it do, does it just send multiple whois lookups to the DAC and when it shows available they automatically register the domain is this correct or does it do alot more than this....

i'm just curious thanks again

You dont even need a script just...

telnet to dac.nic.uk 2043

type internet.co.uk

and you get something like

internet.co.uk,Y,N,N,1996-07-30,2006-07-30,1,NOMINET

if it came back as

internet.co.uk,N

then you better be quick :-D

PHP is the slowest way to go about it, thats all I know.

php is just as quick as any othe programming language out there in terms of dropcatching :)

when the script is executed the interpreter compiles the code into low level 'opcodes', which are then executed pretty much like any other compiled alternative.

you telnet and they know its you becuase you have to tell them your IP (you can tell them 2 IP's)

aquanuke's post is exactly how you do it

ah right, i don;t have access to the Dac (as of yet) but interesting.

So then is that what all the dropcatchers for UK names do, do the systems integrate with telnet.

also are you allowed to send like 100 whois requests a second. Whats the limit with the DAC

So how does some people get most of the domains and others don't

is it the speed of the program
and how close the server is to the DAC, nominet registration etc.
