Advice Cheap Minimal Websites

I’ve got a couple of family members looking for advice on how to throw up a quick basic site, but it’s not something I have knowledge on, they’re considering Godaddy Wix drag and drop style. To me they seem expensive.

Saw hostinger had a £2/month basic website builder if you prepay 4 years.

has anyone got any recommendations?

It depends…

What’s the website for?
is it a one time build and never touch again?
assume no functionality is required, just static online pages?

Who’s going to build it and do they have any tech abilities?

do they have time to spare to learn the builder and make the edits required?

are they going to be happy with a pre-built template and accept things as they are, or are they going to want to customise it, because ‘it’s not quite right as it is…’

the cheapest and most reliable way to ‘set and forget’ would be an HTML template off theme forest, customised and then uploaded to the cheapest shared hosting you can find - but who’s going to the html…

otherwise Wix is a good option, as you can help set them, then trust that they won’t be coming back to you every month with a WordPress plugin issue / update requirement, etc etc

Yes like a business card in case a customer or supplier looks up the business email address they’re using. They’re not fussy about the design, something dated is better than nothing.

They would like to do it but have basic tech ability, they have some spare time but if they could they would pay someone to set it up but they don’t then want to be dependent on that person for security updates or minor wording changes etc potentially they won’t update it for next 5-10 years.

some of the Godaddy and Wix sites are £10/month and can then also renew significantly higher

Why bother?

There's a sum in life, you should apply it to everything you do.

How much is your time worth? Is it worth more than you're willing to pay for someone else to do the task? If yes, and it should be yes, why are you not paying someone else to do it.

We don't have time to waste.

I got what I was looking for, Lowreg seriously sorted me out with a site builder annual hosting package
Most cost effective option I could see by a mile, in case anyone is interested Lowreg.com

The traditional cheap way: get your domain name at 1 place, get cheap shared hosting at another place, and start building your website by learning WordPress. .. that is for people who don't mind burning their own free time and getting hands dirty.

Wix and SquareSpace seem to be solid DIY site builder solutions for people without basic WP knowledge.

you might wish to check Site.Pro .. I am not sure of their pricing - the owner Filip is a nice guy.

We’ve made a couple of sites now but I do still have one friend that will want to move or rebuild a pricey DIY site builder from Godaddy to something more cost effective. It mentions website importing so thank you for the recommendation.

At a minimum site.pro even looks like it could be used for parking domains for sale

well, domain parking is actually free at sitepro, that's the reason i've tried it n the first hand. got also website builder as a bonus for parking, and made some basic sites, hope to sell these domains faster now

that website importing thingy is quite fun. didn't try migrating website from other providers, but copied my created website to several domains for sale
