I quite like the thesis theme. Used by matt cutts. I was experimenting with doing an autoblog on techeblog.co.uk

Of course it depends on what your site is abouit and what features you want.
I find Magazine Basic is fairly adaptable for most things I want

hands down best theme for adsense is Heatmap. it's a premium theme but excellent.

looks great and comes with lots of skins. best thing though is the high adsense CTR.

if you're looking for a basic free theme then check out doshdosh adsense theme.

Try using "EASTERHMT" to get $27 off the normal price on checkout. Not sure if code works as I haven't purchased this theme.

I use whydowork Adsense plugin - its free and you can pretty much adapt it to any template and use it to display adds in many places and control it all from one area.

I have been using http://www.ctrtheme.com/ for a finance site and have a CTR of just over 40% with it. If you decide to use it and are feeling generous pm me and I will send you an affiliate link :)

Fantastic thread, was looking around for themes like these. I've been contemplating purchasing the 'crttheme' for a while...anyone else had any success with it ?

I'm probably being overcautious, but does anybody think using any of these kinds of theme is risky in terms of meeting Google's Adsense Terms and Conditions? I wonder if any site gets a 40 per cent click thru rate then you might be inviting google to take a closer look at your network of sites.

Stephen.

Had a quick look at CTRtheme. Has some neat features. Like Stephen I would be a little wary of a very high CTR like 40%. Not sure if it may violate Google ToS, but certainly some of the layouts seem to step outside Google's current guidelines (eg more adverts above the fold than text)

With 40% CTRs you're either experiencing some very good variance or you're doing something illegal. It's not going to work out in the long run!

Great thread though, I've adapted TwentyTen to get a 10% CTR which I'm pretty happy with. I quite like this guy's adaptation of the Mystique theme http://www.best-3dtvs.com/

You can easily get that without doing anything illegal. If you are making your site purely for adsense, then make that the best piece of content on the site :)

I have 5/ 6 sites that do 30-50% CTRs.

Impressive stuff!

However with the release of Google Panda the days are numbered for this strategy surely? If AdSense content provides the best UX, then Google isn't going to take too kindly to your rankings.

I have just got the CTR Theme and have the heatmap theme, so i will compare and report after implementing this on a new site.

Hi woffer, I plan on buying this CTR Theme so have you had any hiccups yet or do you have feedback/comments so far - it would be really helpful!

Thanks.

i've been testing heatmap versus CTR theme too.

i have an existing site that's been running for a while with heatmap. Just started running the same site with CTR theme for a few days and it's definitely improved CTR a little

However, the CTR before with heatmap wasn't bad and Heatmap is a far superior theme in terms of what you can do with. CTR theme is a bit of a 1-trick pony - good for basic adsense sites only.

Heatmap on the other hand is in a different league design-wise. it's no slouch with adsense either - i have one site that does around 25% CTR

Let me know if you have any questions

re themes

yes isnt that strange ctr i have purchased 2 weeks ago

it has good reviews and the heat map theme looks great too

nothing illegal about it .

nick Google makes stupid amounts of money arbitraging clicks

what its asking for , is sites that have good architecture , good engaging content

great on page seo , and ctr heatsmap help met some of those criteria

Google needs sites to place its ad words on to make money

it just wants you to give them what they perceive there clients want

there is a big difference between ctr heat map and and a site covered head to toe in absence panels

that delivers no value for a client , and therefore less chance of a click from that site, which in turn Google see`s this as a lost revenue opportunity

and therefore will devalue said site , would`nt you ,

just my thoughts
