I'd be interested in an answer to this too, I always assumed that because no goods have changed hands that it wouldn't be straightforward to make a claim. Never really looked into it though?

That was exactly my thinking too (no goods changing hands).

...I think the email chain proves that a contract had been made - but did the buyer give a proper name and UK address? If so, then you could pursue this in the courts.

The emails came from Ltd company email, but after the first invoice I sent him, he asked the invoice to be changed to a new Ltd company name that he was supposed to be forming. Since breaking the agreement he didn't create the new limited company. So yet another problem in figuring out where legal action is pointed at (the ltd company from his email or him personally as the 'new' business name was never set up!)

I'm still trying to work things out with him, but just didn't need the trouble.

Thanks for the advice though - good to bounce the ideas around.
