As everyone knows here, the right of registration for .uk who owns the pre-2014 .co.uk will come to an end in a few months time. Now how can I catch some .uk's after the rights have expired? Do I book a backorder on a drop-catching site, the same as I would book on an expiring UK domain?

Thanks :)

I could be wrong but, but dont think anyone knows eactly how the free for will work. There was talk of a staggered release, or Nominet might try and squeeze as much out of it and auction any premiums.

If its a straight "and go " at a certain point then probably just getting as many goes as possible with dropcatchers

It has already been determined; .uk rights not exercised by the 28th June (might be a day either side, cannot remember) will be locked in place. A list in the days following will be supplied for domains released via the new EPP system on the 1st July. The drops will happen from 8am to 6pm in 30 minute pre-disclosed allocations.

Oh looks like I missed something, when did this info come out/where from?

Just to add that, any domains not registered in that 30 minute period become available for registration on the normal EPP about a week later.

Whats the difference between the 2 EPP's? Do we have to sign up to the new epp system? Is there a page on nominet that explains? Thanks in advance

New epp just for ROR (so the ROR release doesn't impact on the main systems).
No page yet, details to be released nearer the time.

Hello there. Newby here looking for some help. I am looking to secure a couple of .uk domains for our established small business.

1) Will my best bet / only realistic chance be to register with lots of dropcatchers?
2) Which dropcatchers do you recommend for this?
3) When is the appropriate time to setup the dropcatches? As close to 28th June / the eventual deadline as is possible?

Basically my best bet to succeed. Apologies for all the questions!

In short. Yes. If it's a desirable domain then there will be competition. Is it a domain that has dropped previously or the co.uk has the right of registration and you're hoping it will drop?

You can also post on here nearer the time and a lot of the catchers on here will load for you if they have nothing on, or you make it worthwhile in terms of a bounty. Just get the TAG and an agreement before you give the domain.

Thanks. I'm hoping the .co.uk will let it drop who has RoR. Am prepared to give a bounty if successful - but would the simplest option be to use someone like dropped.uk ? No win, no fee job

For a newby its difficult to know where to go, and also who to trust

If its something you're really after then gets as many irons in fires as you can. It's likely you'll only get one shot if it does drop. On the public drop catch services load up as early as you can as a lot will only allow one booking per domain.

As for the bounty thing on here. The regulars that would offer a catch on here are trustworthy. Just make sure you get the TAG and agree on a price before you hand over the name.

Just so you know aswell. The ROR release looks like it might be staggered.

That's assume the public catchers accept bookings for these; I expect they will, but at this time, you'd not be able to book, as they are still under ROR status. If they are not heavily contested domain names, you might actually do okay through public catchers, because there will be so much of quality dropping (possibly)....that's if .uk hasn't completely died out by then, we live in hope!

Thanks Dee. Much appreciated

Would these guys be useful to use?

ukbackorder.com
catch.domaintree.co.uk
ecatch.co.uk
catchit.co.uk
backorder.premiumdomainnames.co.uk
domainjunky.co.uk
pfukcatching.co.uk
dropped.uk

When you say early, do you mean now?

Thanks for all your advice!

Yes. If it were me id book the ones that will let you now. If its an auction site then you'll find out anyway and just remember to rebid nearer the time if you get outbid.A few will let only one booking though, so you need to get those.
