Dear OVIVO Customers,

We are very sad to announce that for reasons beyond our control, OVIVO Mobile is closing down on the evening of Wednesday 19th March 2014.

Where do Ovivo rank with the likes of O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone, I only ask because I've never heard of Ovivo.

Lost £2.5k investment, whatever they owed me in affiliate revenue and got no phone for probably a week.

They were an MVNO (on Vodafone) in the same way as giffgaff (who use o2) are and were funded by a one off fee and then supposedly advertising.

Thanks, never heard of MVNO, assumed that was a phone company, but a search tells me it means "Mobile virtual network operator", learn something new every day

I think I'd heard of giffgaff before, probably saw it mentioned on here, but didn't know what that was either.

No, I didn't know Virgin where the first mobile operators in the UK, I thought they were just doing mobile in recent years, I did know they do mobile stuff, but if you asked me to name mobile phone companies off the top of my head, all I could tell you are O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone, I couldn't think of another one like Virgin unless prompted.

As you can probably guess, I know little to nothing about mobile phones

Virgin were the first uk mvno I believe. Late 90s I think. t-mobile and orange are now EE although the old brands are currently still operating as well as the new EE brand. O2 was btcellnet and cell net prior to that. Vodafone were first uk network followed closely by cellnet.

I just think of Virgin as selling records and videos, and not being a mobile phone user, I never look for anything to do with mobiles, so I'm absolutely way behind the times with that sort of technology and the companies providing it.

Orange is another one I wouldn't have thought to mention.

I have two sims just for testing vodafone coverage, really, so no bother for me. Will upset a lot of people.

That's pretty small chips them only having that many customers, and if as stated earlier in the topic, they charged a one off fee and then hoped to cash in on advertising.

When I joined the "fee" was converted to credit, but I think later the credit was what you paid less £5 so the fee was just £5.

Was perfect for me as I never went over any of the monthly allowances.

There's a free data only service called samba mobile, but apparently you have to watch tonnes of ads. Many more than with Ovivo. You can avoid the ads by paying a fiver for 500mb though. I have no idea if it's a decent service with regard to speeds etc. I bought a mifi device the other day and intended to stick an Ovivo sim in it.

I already have a Three sim I never used and they charge 1p per meg data which is fine for me as it is only occassional use on a tablet when out and about and credit never expires.

You attained your PAC quick. I assumed it would take them ages. I'm not bothered about my Ovivo numbers. I don't even know what either were off hand.

I filled in form last night had them about midday today, which was lot quicker than I expected. Not bothered about numbers too much but as I have two consecutive numbers thought be shame to lose them

I believe samba use Three for their network coverage. I was going to obtain a sim but don't think I will bother. The £5 for 500Mb is the same price and allowance as giffgaff's cheapest data only bundle.

Was going to say that after actually as I've been looking into it more, hah. Also, if you use Quidco and aren't yet a giffgaff member you can get £5 cashback on your first £10 deposit.

Well I got the sim watched a few small ads ie 10sec ads and was fine used the dongle on my laptop works fine there is a code to get one for a £1 if you want one...
