Selling "better" versions of existing domains?

Tried this many times, one of the advantages of having both an expired domain database and zonefile database is you can get bluewidgets and search for "blue widgets" and see

etc

90% of the time, your met with in difference, although recently I did recently work with a company where the owner owned the non-hyphen but dropped it because of the awkward SSS (like say FitnessShakes), so they went with the hyphen to break it up but let the non-hyphen drop and they bought it a few weeks ago off an Acorn Domainer, so some companies see the light... just a little late.

Domainers are mainly blind. They often percieve value where there is none and get very emotional when others don't share the same vision. This is because the skill barrier to get into 'domaining' is very low on terms of being able to participate, but the skills are still missing that would be required in any successful business. Domainer can still become great.

I can relate to that. I've seen so many average (or even bad) domains listed for insane figures and when you make a reasonable offer they act like you just insulted their wife!
