Where to get free images from?

So, I've never really bothered putting images in my articles on my sites, but I think I might start soon. Basically what I'm asking is: are there any sites that are 100% free that allow you to use their images?

Most that I find say that they are free but in reality they aren't.

Think I might have to look in to how to use SEO on images as well.

SXC.hu has quite a few free ones, although there are a limited number for some searches.

For SEO and usability, you can use 'alt' and 'title' tags.

click on the creative commons option and remeber to give credit to creator if needed.

Basic question, but how is credit given to the creator under Creative Commons?

Is it just a case of ensuring "image taken by ___" is present, or does there need to be a link back to the original source?

Have done some reading but couldn't seem to find a definitive answer.

ive used images, not been able to speak to the owners and just link back to their flickr page and added thier name to the image (small text)...... just ask really

Of course, depending on the niche, why not take just take your own camera?
With all the photo editing software that you get for free with digital cameras, might be worth the small learning curve?

It really depends on the niche. Free images are a pain in the arse most of the time - however I recently began developing a planets website and found that NASA has tens of thousands of images completely free for commercial use.

Why not take your own photos? Photography is a fun hobby, and your images will look much better than stock photos, plus you will never have any copywrite worries.

yes depends on the niche really...i have loads of hardcore porn sites and me and the missus have barry (the nextdoor neighbour) come around and take "images" for our sites, now the photo's are not the most professional looking...well due to fact that i suffer from cronic arthritis and the missus is minus a leg but this has never stopped us before..
