Relaunching a few old sites, an example: Budgie Cages

What is required other than a privacy policy and 'dont click on these ads'

My privacy policy is no follow, no dir, etc. Will this effect googles automated system from picking up that I have one?

Thanks, Ash

Your privacy policy looks followed (from the menu) to me, but assuming that it wasn't..

There's evidence to suggest Google 'looks' at nofollow pages/links even if it doesn't give PR 'credit' for them.

Also, I believe that there are a few articles floating around which say that nofollowing internal links (other than shopping carts, registration pages and similar) is a waste of time.

Got a link here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=43eea681e65b306a&hl=en

You'll have to do the digging yourself if you want more info on my other points though :)

Good good, just dont want my acc deleted by google

Its done through meta tag on the page itself:

<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow, noarchive, noodp, noydir" />

Not in links to it.

Thanks :)

Yay somehow got banned and I have no idea why. :/ Damn them.

Are google tightening up on the sites that place adsense on their websites?
I just thought that you could ask people to click the links or mention how the site might be funded. Is this no longer the case?

I would guess so... weird though - my sites are all unique content and I have never directed any click to the ads or broken there policies at all as far as I was aware:

While going through our records recently, we found that your AdSense
account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers. Since
keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage
our advertisers in the future, we've decided to disable your account.

Please understand that we consider this a necessary step to protect the
interests of both our advertisers and our other AdSense publishers. We
realize the inconvenience this may cause you, and we thank you in
advance for your understanding and cooperation.

What happens if you have 20 sites and one breaches the rules as they say. Do all go offline? Can you open a new account and start again?

Don't G have rules about not using adsense on 1 page sites?

The point is they were just made, they are going to be bloggs with lots of content. :D

If google ban your account it is banned across all sites.

I don't think they do Ben - and I've just checked through the Program Policies again.

Anyone else know of this? Or could point to this policy.

They do - indirectly.

You're not allowed to use Adsense on sites where the only exit from the site is via an ad, because that will artificially inflate the CTR. By definition, a 1 page site with ads therefore breaks the rules.

There is also this...

https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=48182
Google ads, search boxes or search results may not be:
- Placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads.

Again, a 1 page site with ads breaks this rule!

seems odd to be banned so quickly, it might be the domain itself has previously been banned from adsense. If this is the case it was probably flagged in the system as soon as you put your adsense code on it.

A one pager with links to plenty of other resources wouldn't violate this particular term.

Was that all the correspondence from G you received Ashton? If that was it, it's pretty poor that they don't tell you exactly what site was breaking the rules and for what reason. I understand they probably have huge numbers of sites to deal with but if you made your living from adsense it's pretty harsh to take it away with no explanation

Yep thats it, take it from there policy:

Because we have a need to protect our proprietary detection system, we're unable to provide our publishers with any information about their account activity, including any web pages, users, or third-party services that may have been involved.

I have no idea why I was banned, none - also I was using an account which I have had for a few years and has provided a nice steady stream of income. It was only be used on automatic sites. I was very wary about putting it on any new sites and looks like I should have heeded my instincts!

Fortunately most of the income from these sites came from Affiliate sales - adsense just being a bonus on that.

I have sent an appeal - we will see!

One of the annoying things about this, is I plan to write (and actually have already written) reams of unique content for these sites to be gradually posted. They would be DEFINATELY value added sites. Unfortunately looks like I put adsense in too early.

That is very poor. Surely there must be some legal obligation to explain a reasoning for the cancellation of your account? No company would get very far in the 'real world' operating like this. Needing to protect a proprietary detection system isn't a good enough excuse. It really annoys me that so many big online companies just take the piss.

Atleast it's not your main income like you say... but still pretty sucky. I can sympathise with G a little, there are an awful lot of spammers etc online trying to rob them. But even so. Let us know how the appeal goes, good luck!

I'm guessing your going to have your appeal refused.

Out of interest.

Why no robots txt or sitemap ? Are they in a non standard location?

And you did validate the site in webmaster tools like some of your other sites didn't you?

Google is notorious for not giving details of Adsense suspensions. On the one hand, it's annoying. On the other hand, with millions of Adsense participants (who collectively earned approx. $2,500,000,000 in Q4 2010 according to Google filings) you can imagine they don't want to spend much time on those they're kicking out.

Can you explain the bolded part please. Have you been putting adsense on automated blogs, aka some sort of scraper sites? If so it shouldn't really be a surprise you have been terminated
