Unoffically I can say that the process will start next year with an application fee of $500,000 If more than one accepted applicant (technically compentent etc etc etc) for the same extension then look forward to a huge bidding war. Although I'd love to take control of that domain they won't let it through. ISO country codes are essentially excluded already by the nature of CCTLDs. police.uk nhs.uk co.uk org.uk etc. are essentially all subdomains of .uk so anyone who would get .uk would get all of the above and more...- JasonD

Damn fine points there. So in your opinion (and mine as it so happens) it is likely that about 2/3rds of current registrars will continue to use the "traditional" registration route. Very interesting indeed.- JasonD

UK OVT Results - All returning '0'
I hope you don't mind me chiming into this thread but as I am a newbie to the domain space I apologise for the noob questions I am about to ask :) I presume the Overture data was scraped for the domain.dom, and used as a measure for approximate searches within the Yahoo network.
