Yeah my site's full of shill bidders. That's why I've banned a total of 3 bidders since I started and had only a handful of non-payers. He doesn't mention that my software and auction are cheaper to use than his software and auction. Not exactly a 'new' business model when he has been doing it for years. I guess the fact that I am even mentioned now means it must be having an impact on his bottom line. That's all I'm going to say on the matter. Basically use my site if you want or don't use it. Oh in case anyone isn't aware - to get a tag now you have to provide a photo evidence of yourself holding ID. Maybe that should be applied retrospectively eh and we can find out where the 'ghost tags' *really* are ;)

Rob, is it not true that registrants of "Caught Auctions" can bid on their own listings?

What if they do not win? Plus they are getting the domain at a reduced rate.

You see this is exactly the kind of rubbish I'm not going to be drawn into publicly. If you have questions contact me outside the forum.

Firstly - so far in the handful of times they have done this they have ALWAYS won. Secondly why do you assume they get a reduced rate? However if people are worried about that (pointlessly) - just don't bid on caught domains. Bid on the free public auctions... or am I shilling those as well? Or...here's a thought that probably never occurred to Denys...use domainlore instead.

How can someone bid on their own auction? You have not made other bidders aware of this.

The trouble is they get a chance to increase the price to a point where they would be willing to sell it or keep bidding over the top and buy at a fraction of the cost.

Anyway I'm sure that any of the hosted chasing customers (that use this forum) can tell you if I tell them 'what to catch and in what order' because, if I did, nominet would easily be able to check. As I don't this is not a problem for me. In actual fact I have gone out of my way to have NO control over any aspects of their chasing for exactly this reason. I guess by that logic having a page of prebids (only available to catchers) is telling people 'what to catch' eh? ;) Anyway I've already gone into this far too much when it's simply mud slinging by someone losing their market. I will not be responding to this post again.

Shill bidding aside, the total number of catches far outweighs what should be statistically possible, with Melitaweb getting most of the premium ones. This is very similar to what CatchTiger did a while ago and got busted for it.

I don't like Nominet allowing people to use hosted systems at all. It enables people with no knowledge or hard work make money with a tiny financial outlay.. I for one would be delighted if Nominet changed their terms and let the people with the best ability catch the best domains.

Having hosted platforms opens up all kinds of potential abuse..

Could not have worded that any better myself.

I'll briefly stick my head above the parapet to say this and only this. I use Rob's hosted chasing and there is in no way at all any "catch this in this order" going on if thats the accusation. I wish someone would tell me which to catch in which order as i currently have about 500 gathering dust that I thought were a good idea to go for / buy. If anyone would like a list to make offers...please just ask :) I decide what to go for on what day. No one else.

Lets face it.... everyone goes for the same stuff anyway. High DA/PA for passing links etc and good generic combos. Not rocket science really.

That's all..... thank you.

What premium domains have you caught using his system in the last 30 days or so then?

It looks like there's a fortunate few using his system that seem to do soooo much better than many other people also using it...

Not quite sure what the implication is there, but I certainly dont have any special relationship as a catcher with anyone or Nominet?

It's not about you - the point I'm making is that whilst 5 or so tags using his system appear to be catching 80% of the premium drops, others get nothing...

It defies logic...

Okay. Sorry... thought you were accusing me of something. All I know is that in my dealings with Rob, he has always been 100% straight down the line. He's incredibly helpful, honest and professional in all his dealings with me, and I suspect it's the same across the board.

I just signed up here today because I've seen my name and my tag published on the Domainlore blog and would love to clear my name

1. I'm not fake or a sock puppet account, anyone wishing to verify this can meet me in my local pub and buy me a beer (I believe I've already dealt with quite a few members in here whether it has been purchasing or selling domains)
2. I'm not a shill bidder and I don't work / collude with, or for Robert. I'm a paying customer of his software and have been for some time. I've never been asked or told to catch anything in particular
3. Robert has been nothing but professional and I have never experienced anything untoward in our communications or dealings

Hope this is useful to anyone wondering, and hopefully Denys will remove my name from the domainlore blog post
