...just a bit of fun really.

You've got £1000 and 2 months, you must invest the money in either buying a domain name or a website (could be multiple), at the end of the 2 months you should have made back your original £1000.

Let's assume you've not got anything to do apart from invest this £1000 and make money back. There is no restriction on domain extension

What would you do?
£1000 gets you a fair few hand reg's
1 domain at maximum budget
5 x £200 domains
something else......

Normally domainers seem to buy and hold domains until the big offer comes....this is talking more about working the investment in a fixed time period.

You could invest £1000 and maybe double it in 2 months but if it takes you 200 hours you're making less than minimum wage. At least the buy and hold strategy is mostly passive.

Flipping clearly works for some people but I'd rather put my time and effort into building value in a business

2 months isn't very long to buy and sell one or two premium names.

Hand regs are probably a better bet - 4 low end sales of 400 names is a pretty easy target to get your money returned.

Throwing up a cheap product-led site and blowing the rest on AdWords would probably be my way of getting the best return.

But for £1000 it aint worth the time versus everything else I've got going on :)

I'd buy £1000 in amazon shares at the start of October when they are low, sell them at the end of November when they are artificially higher due to all that black market stuff.

Strictly speaking buying amazon shares is buying a website, I say it counts!

i did a quick glance at 2014, what i saw suggest i'd make 30c per share if i stuck to the two month deadline, more if i sold before that.

Black Friday is soon, so I just used that as an example. assuming not everyone is going to get an illegal download, buying shares just before that whole new Star Wars things gets released on disc, etc....

I would buy free to reg .com domains that I thought I could flip. I would try and flip them on Flippa.com.

Rgds

I would Buy as many ok brandable (.com domains) as I can find. Would easily sell pretty much all of them for 2 to 3 times on top for what I paid to register each name (pick up auctioned names for few £), that is if it comes to worst and I have to make investment back within time frame of 2 months..

Chances are few of those names will attract bigger sales, already within two moths period!

No problem making decant money on top of original investment in rather short period of time..

I know what i'd do with it ... probably invest in a company on CrowdCube or something like that :p

or if you want hands on I'd quickly start offering Christmas tree collection after Christmas for a small charge and hire a van

Interesting mix of responses and some I hadn't thought about, eg product + adwords spend

Make a good YouTube video on a popular subject and promote that. Monetise it via the Google Ads for YouTube programme, and hope it pays you back.

I've no idea about YouTube ads but I would have thought you'd need a hell of a lot of video views to make £1k?

Yes you will need a good video, but it is possible. Plus it's lifetime recurring revenue.

Had any experience with this or examples you can share? I suspect even the most established youtubers will confirm it isn't that simple, and making a return within 2 months isn't achievable in the way you describe.
