The guy was attacked, so now he's turning the tables of his attackers. Not so sure the police like this type of thing, but you've got to admire his approach. He's even increasing the reward as time goes by, and taking out full page ads in the local Press.

(Reminds me of Mel Gibson's plan in the film, Ransom, although the type of crime was different of course.)

"It is believed these men thought there was a significant amount of valuable goods on the premises, they were wrong..."

• Omega 007 Seamaster: black rubber strap, black face
• Omega Chrono blue: metal bracelet, blue face
• Breitling Skyracer: metal bracelet white face
• 2x 1kg Gold bars

Sounds like a bit of wealth on the property to me!

Nice idea though, but relying on the good fortune of someone boasting about it in the pub with no photographic evidence.

he used to own totally wicked e cigarretes, not a very well respected gentleman

This guys idea of valuables and mine are obviously different. There's not many 1KG gold bars knocking around my house. In fact, there aren't any.

so obviously somebody he knows well enough to know his house etc.

Surely somebody around him has been quiet/out of sight/sheepish in some way.

Hope they get brought to justice though.

its gone up to 275k, he's took a full page ad out in our local paper. i thought it was joke at first. good luck to him

edit: 300k now!

Not too far away from me. Samlesbury itself is pretty small & exclusive. Bit like alderley edge, full of the rich & wags.

The man may have made a few million, but I think his grasp of economic incentive is poor. He is increasing the value of the reward each week. If someone knows something, they stand to make an extra £5k for every week they wait to come forward...

Edwin, given that you've just been advising people not to burden their families with their domain portfolio after death, I'm now slightly worried. Where do I send the protection money?

Umm, I'm suspicious of everyone including him! Who keeps 1kg bars of gold in the house. Lots of publicity for next to nothing..

Big difference between offering a reward and actually paying one though? what are they going to do take him to court if he doesn’t pay it :)

No, they'll send the boys round. Oops, isn't that how it all started :/

He should be seen to be working with the police IMHO...

I think he was, but he got fed up that the police didn't do all they could. I think this happened last summer, so the chances of the police catching them now are slim.

Even if someone comes forward now and claims the reward, he's going to be pretty pissed off, when they only get 1 or 2 months in prison if that.

His best bet would be to keep the money and pay private detectives and then pay someone to give them a visit, like they did to him.

Not a huge amount was stolen - going rate for 1kg of Gold is £25k a bar and the watches - £70k total I reckon. Not a huge amount considering they beat this poor guy.

So offering £300k - he's really pissed.
