Hi everyone,

I just tried to sell a domain on DomainLore but had no interest and obviously that has cost me £5. It was really more of a test to see how things work but I don't want to go down the same route with other domains that might not sell.

What are your tips on selling domains?

1. Should I submit them here in the appraisals sections to see if other people rate them or tell me they're worthless?

2. I'm dealing with low value domains too so is it better to just list them on here rather than go through an auction site like DomainLore?

3. Is it better for the domain to have a site already on it and getting rankings or do buyers just want to know the keyword search total potential and don't care about what's on the site currently?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Hi Adem
1 & 2 is your call, if you want to shift them as a list maybe put the in the portfolio section. If your feeling brave maybe put them in the appraisal section but be ready for realistic answers that you might not like.
3 - some people believe a site helps to show that in theory your KW domain ranks, others believe that putting up a low quality site may not help a great name in the long run, depends what your plan is? in some cases its nice to show your 3 or 4 pages above the company your trying to sell a name to!

It might be the best £5 you ever spent.
What was the name ?
It might not be so important, how you sell the names, as the names you want to sell. If your new, you need to get oppinions on your name choices to see if you are going down the right road. By low value names do you mean names that are traded between people who don't know what they are doing ?

I'd like to put a domain in the appraisals section to get honest feedback as to whether someone would buy it but my domains are geared towards the niche market and a site making money and ranking would probably show its potential although that's a bit more work than just flipping a domain.

I currently make money from niche AdSense sites and so the domains I normally target are geared for that. They are low competition keywords that I think I can rank for. The domain I listed was fittedwardrobe.org.uk. Not great but 1000 local searches and £2.10 CPC.

It's not developed at all and I bought it on a whim so I was testing the water as to whether anyone would find it interesting. As you say, it could be the best £5 spent as it may be that I'm better off creating websites than selling domains. I'm making money from that and obviously getting revenue every month from developed domains but thought domaining looked like another possible revenue stream if I get the righ domains.

Sorry, obviously you do know what you are doing.
I'm surprised that domain didn't get a low bid.

I'd say you didn't get bids because domainers might look at this and think how much return will I get from it either as a resale to end user or developed, and if developed, how much is it going to cost to get developed/ranked and is this going to give me a good return or am. Better investing that £50 or more into other potential domains.

I'd say if it was the plural you may have had a bid

There is no trick, you have to own domains that other people covet, and for which they will pay.
If you have really good domains then they should be pitched to end users. Resellers won't pay as much.
On the other hand, if you still find a 'great' domain available it probably means that nobody needed it, or wanted it. So you have to think about it, is it so great after all.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think the fact is that the domains I currently own are of no real interest to buyers or resellers but I'm happy to say that they're not worthless to me.

I know that I can develop them and that I can earn money from them either from AdSense or Affiliates, so there's no harm done and I'm just a few quid down from my attempted sale on domainlore.

Cheers :)
