Is anyone here into music recording? It's something I want to find time for, I have some gear but have not had time to set it all up properly. There was a good programme on Quest TV last night about the evolution of the recording studio, did anyone see it?

Neighbour of mine has a recording studio in his home; had an extension built purposely! He's apparently an internationally renowned DJ but don't ask me, I'm one of a rare breed of person that doesn't listen to music, find it too distracting!!!

Really sorry but you don't half post some shite.

Do you mean live music or creating your own?

I remember the days when you could quite nicely record the top ten off of Radio One onto one side of a C90 on a Sunday evening.....

I record a few things direct from the mixing desk, but mostly for the band to listen back, not for a "proper" recording.

I have a recording studio here. We're only mid range though without facilities for drums. However everything else is there, mixing desks, recording rooms, multi instruments, synths, amps, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n9Xq7YtTGg is one I mixed myself - we recorded it here and laid on a drum track with electronic kit.

Can't beat a decent real drum kit!, the drums do sound a bit thin for my liking :( Personally I like the vocals high in the mix like you have too many these days have the vocals too low and you loose a lot of the lyrics. I may be old school, but I like to be able to hear every instrument and vocal when I do a live mix :)

I used to play in a band and did a couple of albums in the studio. Studied Music Production at uni and was mostly into indie/rock stuff then. For the last year or so I've been messing around with more electronic music. Got into trance through my wife and it's easier to produce in the fact that you can do it all by yourself from your bedroom so to speak. No need to mic up drum kits or amps. All you need is a synth, recording software and a couple of VSTs.
