I've always parked my domains with SEDO but due to dwindling returns decided to try a few minisites.

Currently I have.

spikemilligan .co.uk > currently ranks 2nd on Google for search term "Spike Milligan", receives around 400 visitors per day, makes around $1.50 per week.

inbrief .co.uk > currently ranks 4th on Google for search term "Legal News", receives around 20 visitors per day, makes around $2 per week.

Considering both receive traffic and both rank high in Google the returns are pretty poor using adsense and amazon.

I am in 2 minds whether to develop any more mini sites as the returns for work put in seem pretty poor.

I know there's better alternatives to SEDO but is Mini sites the answer ?

Thanks

Mark.

The problem you have here is not in the concept of minisites, but the subject matter of your sites, neither of which relate to things which sell well over the internet.

Whilst I am not going to give you specific product ideas, you can refer to this page:

Consumer Trends Data

to get general ideas. I would suggest that thinking more carefully about what people actually buy over the internet will prove beneficial in terms of making a go of it.

That's true for most cases as you can be doing really well in clicks for a slipper site that pays poor but be doing poor with clicks on an insurance one but revenue is really good.

All depends on the site subject.

Over Christmas I was getting 1000's of uniques a day poor click revenue but the volume made up for it and was making £xxx high end a month.

So I would put it who's doing well with uniques and who's making a nice bit from it :)

I'm fairly confident you can make good returns on mini sites in the right niche's however for the last while I had turned my attention elsewhere so don't have any new sites or examples to give. It's not a blanket solution though and has to be well researched to work well.

I'm moving away from 'mini sites' as such, least the auto generated ones that scrap the data and making 'genuine mini sites' that are informational. I'm moving more to drop shippers and affiliates with ads as a secondary revenue.

I'd spread domains over SEDO, Affiliation, Adsense, Renting out, and so on. Basically don't rely or put your eggs in one basket if you do.

I do think any type of active site adds value to a domain, so Parking would come bottom of my list.

Never rely on one client they say no matter how much your getting or big they are, spread your risk.

Actually checking my minisites Adsense earnings it does look like money can still be made from them:

Joke :D
Not mine, quite a novel mini site idea, fake adsense image generator : Make money with Google AdSense so now the con artists on DP don't even need to get caught out with poor photoshop skills.

lol - I bet its not far off though Scott ;)

Would be nice to log into any affiliate account and see that kind of figure sitting there!

Rich

Im making beer money from minisites that wouldnt make a penny parked. Few hours work designing then left so far over a year handfree making a steady sum.

I must ask...... what where you making while parked for the two domains? as they also would not have been in google.
(not sure if BH sites are condoned but isnt that the only way getting in search engines with a parked domain)

spikemilligan .co.uk > currently ranks 2nd on Google
inbrief .co.uk > currently ranks 4th on Google

Over the past few days, I have had developed a few nice minisites for some of my highly searched keyword domains (see signature). I'll update later with stats (traffic, clicks & revenue). If the domains are generic and highly searched, the content is unique and useful, there is no reason - with a little SEO, why a good keyword minisite could not rank somewhere in the top 2 pages of google - especially if the keywords you are trying to rank for are actually the name of your domain (ex. "Exercise Mat" -> ExerciseMat.net). And if you can get onto the top 2 pages of google for your keyword ranking, you'll attract and catch some of that organic traffic and those clicks will follow.
