We believe what we want or need to believe. Russia wanting to see the break up of the EU isn't news so why wouldn't they lobby the leave camp. What's the difference between this and George Soros backing Gina Miller? It's what politics is all about.

Yep, completely normal for a guy who spent £12 million on propaganda to be secretly *offered* Russian goldmines. Move on folks, nothing to see here.

EDITED to say offered, no proof he did a deal. Plenty of proof he lied repeatedly.

Including a claim that all he did in Moscow was 'visit the Hermitage Museum' which is impressive, since it's in St Petersburg :)

I posted against my better judgement, you didn't answer my question and I'm tired of feeding you.

Great, because I'm not biting. This one can't be deflected with whataboutery. If you want to talk about Gina Miller start another thread and I'll happily take your false claim apart.

We're all tired.

"Whataboutism (also known as whataboutery) is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy that attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument,[1][2][3] which is particularly associated with Soviet and Russian propaganda.[4][5][6] When criticisms were leveled at the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the Soviet response would be "What about..." followed by an event in the Western world.[7][8][9] "

Oakeshott doing damage control:

"I was very surprised by what I found, which conflicted with the public accounts of the relationship with the Russian embassy that Banks and Wigmore had given. My analysis is that Banks and Wigmore were shamelessly used by the Russians. Perhaps the Englishmen did not mind.
As always, the Kremlin’s agenda was to weaken western democracies by fuelling political and social division. And in these two incredibly well-connected men it had highly valuable — and surprisingly willing — tools."

So, how long has she known, and did she tell Dacre?

The difference is that Russia wants to weaken the UK and the West economically and militarily.

Isn’t this just another Brexit thread by the back door? From memory, those always end VERY badly...

I only say that because Acorn has been relatively more harmonious of late, with some good discussions. Seems a shame to have another bust-up. It won’t change anyone’s political views but it will definitely leave people generally more bitter.

Western democracy is falling to extremists and populists, largely at the instigation of the Russian mafia.
I am not particularly bothered whether folks here all stay chums, I'm concerned that they don't get to stick their fingers in their ears while the country burns.

Supposedly for many people the vote was about the sovereignty of the British Parliament and rejecting foreign interference.
Our political system, our democracy, has been compromised. Anyone who prefers to ignore that needs to consider where their loyalties lie.

Have you seen any 'Free Tommy' posters round your way Edwin? Cos I have. Yesterday a mob of troglodyte fuckwits attacked the police to protest the jailing of 'Tommy Robinson'.
A man who attempted to subvert the rule of law and plead guilty to contempt of court after he tried to live stream a trial. Even Farage balked at that, but then Farage's role was merely to light the touchpaper and withdraw, he doesn't do fallout.

We have some basic standards to uphold here. First they came for... and all that.

I am not ignoring anything whatsoever, as even a quick glance at my Twitter feed will show. I have seen plenty of others I recognise from Acorn putting their own strong views out there for both camps through the same means...

But what’s the point of destroying the environment in here for those who, actually, would quite like to keep chatting about domains?

The only thing guaranteed is that, Leave or Remain, nobody’s about to change their mind. So why pick a fight in here that is guaranteed to rage on?
