for the sad git who called nominet concerning the domain name awaybreaks.co.uk all i can say is hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha if you have nothing better to do than compalin becuase you lost a name on a catch i suggest you get a faster system ;) ;)

What was the basis of their complaint? "Somebody registered this before me, can you take it off them please?"

Naive...

awaybreaks.co.uk ?

Quite why anyone would want that domain let alone complain because they lost out amazes me.

There is a few bitter catchers out there who bounce off the walls if they miss a domain .. perhaps they ought to get a hobby :)

as you say Paul... AHAHAAHAHAH :D

.

awaybreaks.co.uk is a good name in my eyes..

Guess if someone would knock (off topic) a name on a public forum then its just one step from making a complaint to Nominet. ;-)

.

well all i can say is if the person is on here would you like to say why you called nominet :) i know the reason as they told me but lets see if the sad person will make themself known here.

other than that happy catching in the future ;) ;) and i will sell you my dac if you want a faster system than yours....

Going slightly off topic, what is the going rate for a "good" catching script/system?

You don't seem to be doing too badly with your present setup.

Surely anyone with a competitive system is unlikely to sell it, preferring to use it for their own purposes. If a system was for sale, support and updates would be crucial to stay ahead. I was offered a proven system for £37k, I don't regret passing on that opportunity.

There used to be an edge in having a comprehensive list but very few worthwhile names drop unnoticed nowadays. Drops are in decline, but Nominet report high volumes of new registrations, perhaps a percentage of these are names that were deleted some time ago.

I dont attempt to catch any domains and I certainly dont have time to complain to Nominet.

Awaybreak is still a bit odd IMO. Breakaway.co.uk however....

hahhahaha hmmmm looking at the prices of domains i think i would accpet £20k :)

It's a shyte name [imho]; but that's immaterial. Some people are far too bitter for their own good.

How did you hear of the complaint btw? The name was reg'd on 8th Sept. so things have happened mighty fast. Have you got a crony at Nominet, or is it now their policy, in the absence of a DRS, to inform domain owners of 'telephone complaints,' relating to their acquistion, within a day or so of receipt?

im not even going to entertain the last comments, and nominet sent me an email the day i got it..

No harm meant, no hard feelings I hope. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, good luck with it.

It's good to see Nominet acting in this way - I had always considered them to be rather stiff and inflexible, not the kind of organisation that would offer anything whatsoever over and above the service set down in their T&Cs, never mind offering something tantamount to common sense so promptly.

Here is the reply i got from nominet concerning domain name holders. I have never heard this before so would like other views.

basically you can only opt out of not displaying your details if you are a consumer.

If the domain name is being offered for sale or has sponsored links then you cannot opt out.

Has anyone heard this before ??? or are nom doing the usuall make up as we go along rules.

Weird. So I take it that this means that, according to Nominet, every individual with a speculative name up on Sedo, should have their associated name and address on show, in the Whois?

well going of the email i recieved yes.....

I have been told this in the past. Somebody complained about me listing a domain on Sedo and I was opted out. Nominet updated it and told me I couldn't use it for commercial gain if I was an individual.

They only check if somebody complains.

.

ok fair enough but what about the data protection act? as i clearly do not want my details displayed on the whois.
