Can someone tell me what sort of speeds I should expect to download at using a 2mb dsl?

Im told that portforwarding is not open (even though im sure it is configured correctly) yet im only getting 22k download :( Is this the norm? Im sure it cant be.

TIA!

Depends if your surfing the web at the same time? And where the Torrent is hosted?

Could put this on a linux box TorrentFlux - PHP Torrent Client and leave it running over night

I typically get 200+ kb/s download speeds, which client are you using?...most tell you if it's working properly.

I use ABC...the download turns to green, rather than slimey green when it's connected properly.

Of course your download speed will also be dependant on how many people are seeding.

Portforwarding? Not sure what you're meaning there, but make sure that inbound connections are possible to your client (you may need to open a couple of ports on your FW).

As many clients operate behind inbound blocking firewalls, their upstream bandwidth can only be utilised in an outbound (from their perspective) TCP connection - so to utilise this often under-used pool of bandwidth, you need to open the ports to allow them to hook into your client. Something like TCP/6880-9 from memory.

Cheers, Nick.

I'd use 16889 - 16999, doesn't really matter what port you use but some trackers block the above ports.

By port forwarding he means from the router :) (Sometimes called Virtual server depending on router)

Nice , I have been using bitcomet and getting 150kb download and about the same upload

Aquanuke, you dont like lost do you :p its a load of rubbish :p

I'll watch any old rubish with polar bears and smoke monsters.

I Use Azureus to download which is vgood. I then convert using a program called AVI2DVD which is free and have had no synching issues.

Im going to take back my praise of torrentflux, terrible cpu/memory hog once its been running for over 24 hours.

With just two torrents downloading..

load average: 7.63, 6.74, 6.42

Much better linux client is Enhanced CTorrent

Enhanced CTorrent

No GUI just console but uses very little resources in comparison.

This is with 4 torrents running, with 24+ hours.

load average: 0.50, 0.43, 0.39

And with the lower loads it downloads alot quicker as well.
