    Hello all,

I'm currently building a new website. Have been in content building mode so far.

To date, I've added 33 unique articles with a total of 43,000 words. It's good quality content but there are plenty of competitors writing about similar topics.

A few questions for the SEO whizzes out there :)

    When building new websites:
    - When do you tend to start the link building process?
    - How do you typically start trying to build links. Do you outsource or do it personally?
    - Any tips on initial quick wins? I'd like to avoid anything spammy ideally.
    - Any recommendations on link building services?

In summary... I'm not quite sure where to start in building links. I'm targeting quite a competitive niche (finance/investing) and would appreciate any guidance anybody can offer.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Tim Soulo from Ahrefs recently published this course on Youtube

There are some sections specifically about building links but the whole thing is definitely worth watching.

There is a very comprehensive link building resource at https://www.aira.net/link-building-book/

It can be downloaded as a pdf for free also. The writer Paddy Moogan knows his stuff when it comes to links.

    Thanks both, very useful.

Any tactics you have found particularly useful yourselves when starting a site from scratch to kick things off?

    It depends.

    Look at your competitors backlinks.
    Who is linking to them?
Why are they linking to them?

Competitive finance/investing websites aren't anything I have experience of but I can well imagine it's just many thousands of pounds of paid links and digital PR every month. 301 redirecting an existing domain or doing manual outreach may be near pointless.
