The discussion about why the character of the sales section seems to have changed recently got me thinking, so I did a little bit of digging using the "Search" tool.

What I found confirmed my "gut instinct", but it was only when I saw the actual numbers in black and white that it truly dawned on me.

10 of the top sales posters* posted a total of 1,425 sales threads in the last year! That's an average of 3.9 sales threads/day across that small group of 10 people (though of course those are NEW threads - many were bumped many times so the total number of such threads the rest of us saw every day in the "new posts" section was >> 3.9/day)
*I won't say "the 10 top" because I may have missed a few people in my quick skim, but they're certainly amongst the busiest sales thread starters.

2 posters each posted over 200 sales threads in the last year - and neither has upgraded to EXCLUSIVE level.

Of the other 8 top posters, only 3 have upgraded to EXCLUSIVE. Remember, the lowest sales thread count in the top 10 is 74 sales threads within the last 12 months (I didn't search further back)!

For comparison, the 10 posters in question started just 403 non-sales threads (22% of their threads).

Hate to say it, but I will! If you've posted 40, 50, 100, more sales threads in the last year, then either
A) you keep posting the same junk - STOP IT, we're sick of seeing it!
B) you're selling enough to pay to upgrade to EXCLUSIVE - DO IT, there's no excuse!

Admin should adopt similar model to domainlore, it floods the forum with domains which you see again and again and again - at least they should pay for the privilege.

It is his (Admin's) choice as to what model he runs the forum and there probably is a reason why it is as it is.

IMO some people on here have too much time on their hands .........

Just found another 5 posters, totalling 516 sales posts (lowest was 57) and only 1 out of 5 has upgraded to EXCLUSIVE.

Come on, folks, it's REALLY not rocket science!

BTW, here's the methodology I used:

1) Head over to the Advanced Search form http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/search.php

2) Change the "Find Posts from" pulldown in the LH column to "A year ago" from "Any Date"

3) Enter the exact user name under "User Name"

4) Change "Find Posts by User" pulldown under the username box to "Find Threads Started by User"

5) Select "UK Only Domains for Sale" in the "Search in Forum(s)" section, and make sure "also search in child forums" box is ticked

6) Hit the "Search Now" button. This gives you the count of all sales threads that user posted in any UK domain-related sales forum

7) Repeat as above, but change the "Search in Forum(s)" section to "Search All Open Forums". This gives you the total count of all threads - sales & discussions - that user posted anywhere in the forums.

Or some people on here are discovering just how much time they're wasting wading through the sales threads started by a few!

I personally don't care what people post as long as the forum allows it. I might well be in your top 10 list. I just counted my sales threads - about 90 - from which I have shifted a decent number of names which some have at least found useful. So I meet your criterion A. I also haven't upgraded - I did when the option was first offered but didn't find it worthwhile so let it lapse - so I guess I am a bit of a pariah on that score too!

Stephen.

I'm guilty of this, I have slowed down recently. I guess it depends on the business model, I for one often catch, post and try to flip, that's just how I make money. However this is a forum, and there forums are there to post names for sale/offer. If there were rules in place I'd happily stick to them without a second thought. Apologies to anyone that have been annoyed by my threads.

Or one can simply ignore the posts made by the 'few'

You don't have to look!

You kind of do when you use the "New Posts" browse option. Even if you don't read each thread each time, the sheer number of new/bumped sales threads (many from the same small group) means that if you go away from your machine for more than a few hours you have quite literally page after page after page of threads to go through in order to catch up.

Ah but Aaron, you have upgraded so you don't need to apologise.

I think that a slight exaggeration, unless you are a very slow reader doesn't take long to work out which posts might be worth reading.

I also think that its important that Aaron doesn't spam the same ones over and over again, I don't have any issue with domains posted for the first time, or even people reducing their price in the thread etc.

I've deleted my post as I don't really need to explain why I personally use the forum like I had indicated here initially.

I have to agree with Aaron. I too am probably up there with the worst of them, but I'm slowing down ... I hope!

In the past, I've caught and tried to flip on AD. It's probably been quantity rather than quality, because I've needed the money, rather than had money to waste. Hopefully, I'm turning this around and will soon have some spare cash to spend on an upgrade. In fact, I'll pledge to put my next £100 of AD sales towards an upgrade.

As Aaron says, if there were rules in place then I think people would happily stick to them. For example, no more than 1 or 2 bumps.

I don't always get the price correct when first posting, so sometimes the price has to be reduced. Not everyone can hold out for £1000+ a domain!

BTW, just so it's 100% clear, I wasn't "prompted" to post this by Alan - he didn't even know that I was posting this thread, nor have I discussed the subject of exclusive membership with him recently (if ever? - my memory's not THAT good)

And yes, as Caz has pointed out, there are other ways of contributing of course besides the "little blue rectangle"!

Edwin does come up with such riveting facts. While you are at it you should check the percentage of sales that result from your over inflated "try your luck" sales threads. They are almost offensive.

An interesting point. It's a bit hard to tell as I deleted the content from a few of the original threads... As far as I can see, I think I sold 8 names from 24 sales threads in the last year.

Whilst it's easy to highlight the high volume posters, where profits are probably low, it's a shame you can't look at the sales by £. Then you might see a few other "cheapskates".

ie. Some people will make more profit from the sale of one domain on AD, than some of us make in a year.

Perhaps a voluntary commission based idea may be more appropriate, than a fixed fee?
