Hi all

New to the game and would like someone to explain an issue for me (hope it dosn't sound too dumb):

I signed up for an Amazon Associates account and have been accepted. I've logged in and had a nose about and seemed self explanitory eg copy and paste html to get banners links etc.

This I understand, however what is confusing me is the seperate part of the store called Product Advertising API which you have to sign up to seperately.

So my question is whats the difference between associates and API. Do I need to sign up to API as well?

As you're probably aware, API stands for Application Programming Interface, and it is just an enabling technology for you to use more advanced programmatic techniques to display Amazon's products on your website, e.g. running a query to display all the Comedy DVDs from Michael McIntyre. The advantage of this is that you can use script programming to create a low maintenance site which won't go out of date. You can "code" a site and you don't have to keep updating it yourself.

You need a separate sign-up because calls on their API means use of server resources, and they have to monitor this to keep everything fair and running smoothly.
