I know there are a few members with great skills in tracking down the owner of a domain, that I hope may be able to share a few tips. Here's where I am so far:

Looking for the owner of a .co.uk domain, registered to an individual with whois opt-out. Not a great domain in itself, but a good one for a project I am working on, that I would be interested in buying.

The domain was developed in 2005, for a company with the same name. Said company renamed itself that year according to Companies House, and the domain dropped in 2009 - it is listed on a drop list on a post on Acorn then. The domain was re-registered in 2010 so hasn't yet come up for renewal. It is registered with 123-Reg and I assume it is on their default IP, as a reverse IP lookup gives around 500K domains with many different owners.

At this point I am stuck, where do I go from here? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

If you PM me the url I could try have a look for you.

Thanks for all the offers of help, this really is a great community. I don't think I should bother anyone else with this one, as it looks like it will come up with a blank. It'd be great is someone proved me wrong however!

Cheers again.

I suggested a competition like this a while back but no names were suggested. i'll have a go if you want to pm name

domain

happy to help with this one let me know. total expert finding this kind stuff out.

Sometimes finding them turns out to be the easy part, buying is a whole different kettle of fish

Very true, in the thrill of the chase you forget that the owner may have no intention whatsoever of selling.

Thanks for all the offers again, I'm going to leave this one for now as it is a dead end, but hopefully will have more information to go on next week.
