Can I ask you guys what your currently using As a domain (by extension) taken/available checker these days.

I'm just looking to gauge the popularity (by registration) of domains I hold, so really only interested in the global Tlds and the most popular cctld's. I used to like using 123-regs interface for a quick scan of popular extensions taken - and of course the quick click straight to the whois. But, using 123-reg that way has become so slow and unreliable (ie NOT FOUND results) as of late. Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys - I'll check them all out. :D

I do this on a daily basis when building droplists and it's obvious that most registrars domain checkers are total shite! At the moment I'm using names.co.uk, you get the odd timeout but it's fairly quick.

get an estibot account, $20 per month - does exactly what you are looking for. Will check the .co.uk (or whatever you are scanning) but also give a visual garaphic or Excel export of if the following gTLDs are taken:

com
net
org
info
biz
us

Please use my affiliate link:

If you want to send me a list to scan I will send you the results in CSV so that you can see what it provides.

Cheers for all the further suggestions guys. I tend to do a real-time check as and when i'm either listing or replying to enquiries ( I have about 12 different criteria I work to) But as I am intending going down the Sedo route - I just didn't want to wait for 123-regs response times. even though I will be uploading one at a time to Sedo and I intened fix pricing. I wouldn't be concerned If they were all going to be make offer - they'd be up there in an instant

The alternative registration service interfaces are probaly going to be my best bet.

Nice one boxfish, thanks for that.

Do you think you could ask them to colour them
Red = taken
Green = available
;) :p

Thats a super fast whois response as well

I'm actually working on a plugin for highlighting domains on a page which are FTR / Taken / Expiring - very early in progress at the moment and tricky but should be interesting

And no it won't work on search engines etc (or will it..... :) )

And completely free to Acorners :D

Sounds like a worthwhile project

To be honest (sorry if off thread) I could do it free but things would cost me in the long run so I'd be happy to do a pay as you go type credit setup. I can't think of a fairer way of developing software - freemium type arrangement or an API type arrangement but it just couldn't be free for bulk users etc

http://namecheck.com/ is a fast whois. Also checks social profiles and trademarks.

Thanks Liam, It's a nice clear red and green display for just about every extension and username under the sun, unfortunately it dosen't link to the 'whois' which is one of my main lookup requirements.

Thankyou to everyone that replied to this thread, It helped build a little directory in my favourites (as I'm sure it has for others) :D:D:D
