Yes a few years ago it was like buying a private reg where no-one could question your right to own it! But I can agree that passing-off isn't really fair!! I had to release a full set of amex domains i.e. goldamex.com platinumamex.com blackamex etc (Their value was increased by the fact amex.com is actually the american stock exchange so it was hard to guess their actual homepage!). I got a legal letter which even quoted Bill Clinton!
