It won't kill Paypal, that's just silly talk.
It might take a bit of it's market share but it won't come anywhere near killing it in the UK.
If you exceed your free transaction processing for the month or you do not advertise with AdWords at all, you will only be charged 1.5% + £0.15 per transaction.
With its proprietary fraud detection technology, Google Checkout works to protect you from unwarranted chargebacks. In cases where you are found liable for a chargeback, you will be charged the full amount of the chargeback plus an additional £7 chargeback fee.
As long as Paypal are in bed with ebay they will still used.
As for UK consumers 'trusting' Google? I'm not so sure the average consumer will be that trusting of Google.
