Have you stopped developing .co.uk?

With the intro of the .uk, maybe, have people stopped developing .co.uks and started clearing them out? I'm just starting my first project, in probably two years, with a .co.uk and .com, so just an "out of interest" post really.

I don't know much about SEO but wouldn't a .uk take longer to rank (if it's included as a 'major' extension) than a .co.uk?

You can set the geography of a domain in G Webmaster Tools I believe, so I'd say no. .co.uk vs .uk shouldn't be any different (although i'm sure they will be slightly)

But if you have a site running, then it's a big switch, new site so a long time to get it ranking, the same as setting up a brand new .co.uk would be.

Personally I think it will take a long time for the .uk to really be considered the new .co.uk by the end consumer, which is the most important thing.

I think you're right on that. :)

I haven't developed any new .co.uk for 2/3 months now, I might do. TBH though the proposed .uk does put me off a little.

Why develop a successful .co.uk site if someone can come along and pinch the .uk equivalent from under my nose?

Yeah, my thinking is how are UK consumers even going to know about it. Until they are used in 100s of PPC and SEO campaigns...they won't even have seen them.

PPC can happen overnight, but even an SEO company is going to take a few months to get their clients into the top 10...and not everyone has a proper SEO campaign in place.

Also, people can nick the .uk, but they don't have the site, they don't have the rankings and ultimately, it won't come naturally for the individual to type .uk naturally, for probably over 12 months and beyond. .com typo is much more likely.

Ive just recently finished developing one .co.uk domain and plan to develop one more later in the year.

I'm not going to lose no sleep over the .uk situation. If it happens it happens and ill deal with it then.

I have no plans to buy any more .co.uk domains though!

Set the geography for it will be unnecessary. It depends on whether Google accepts it as a dominant country-specific extension, although I can't see why it wouldn't.

Just redirect everything.
