Hi,

This is probably a bit of a bolt out of the blue and I apologise but hope you can help me!

I am Khalid's wife (aka Jeewhizz), I'm sure some of you will remember him. Slightly randomly I came across this site yesterday and the thread that was started when he died. There were a couple of posts in there about his domain portfolio and whether I'd need help sorting it out so I thought I'd try my luck and see if anyone can help!

I am still trying to wind up his business which to be honest I can't believe has taken this long. The thing now is that there is quite a list of domains that belong to the company and we can't really wind it up with assets outstanding. We have been trying to sell them but not getting anywhere so this is really a last ditch attempt or I'm just going to tell nominet to cancel them.

As it is there are debts that need to be paid from the estate so unless they sell for a huge amount I'm not going to see any of the money so to that end I am not that interested in getting a 'good price' for them, or in waiting around for someone to come with a good offer. My priority now is getting the business wound up as it has been hanging over my head for far too long. From what I can tell there are some decent ones on the list so obviously if we could sell them for a decent amount that would obviously be great, but really I just want them sold!

If you think you can help then I will post a list of the domains!

Thanks!:D

Hi

I think the best thing to do if you want to get them sold asap is to post the names on here for either a fixed price or take offers on each name

I agree, it also means everyone will see them and be able to advise which could probably go for more. After all, it would be a shame to under-price them too much. May I ask where else they are being advertised for sale?

Hello,

Following the other suggestions in more detail, one of the most apparent ways to clear a portfolio of domains would be to post them all in one big list:

Bargain Basement Domains for £50 or less

or

Portfolio sales could be better for more.

Like the others said, post them all and focus on being public so that everyone can comment on correct pricing, it would be terrible if you got taken advantage of. However, that doesn't mean one of the larger domainers here wont make you a decent offer for all of them.

salaam

salaam ,

first of all sorry about your loss...

put them all up in one or two lists on the site it is the best way by far.

if however somone makes u an offer for the whole portfolio and u want to sell again i think this is not the best idea you should put them up in lists .

then let me and others make an offer too for the whole portfolio don't be coned into taking the first offer.

good luck and all the best inshalla

Hello,

I also add my condolences.

I would suggest you get a list of domains together and I can help you list them here for sale and elsewhere.

You could also list them for sale at Sedo (the main UK marketplace for selling domains to end users) and for free at AcornAuctions.co.uk (no fees would apply in your case).

Please contact me by PM or email if I can help you.

I have some great members here who will be happy to assist.

Best regards
Admin

well done admin great to be a part of this community.

if u need any help sorting out probate or whatever let me know i have some lawyer friends that owe me a favour and would give you some free advice .

If James @ Namedrive is willing to include last minute additions to the domainers auction that would be a fitting place to sell a batch if not all of them.

If not then I suggest going through Admin to let him set up a sales forum/thread for the portfolio.

I know Chris (Aquanuke) was involved at an early stages, so I'm not sure of his involvement now.

I'm sorry about Khalid, we were all a bit shocked, and a lot of the longer standing members knew him, if not personally, then professionally through this site.

Cancelling them shouldn't be an option, most of the top people in the uk industry are long-term members here and I'm sure we can sort it all out. They might not all go for end-user prices but it's a better solution than releasing them.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your loss (I joined shortly after, but have heard great things about him).

If you send me a list I will see if I could give you a good price for any of them or help you value them / advice how to sell them.

Sorry about your loss.

I think posting the list to the forum, for everyone to see then allow admin a few members like Admin/Chris etc who dealt with him, advise on if the prices are acceptable and suggest counter offers. Any names with multiple offers where the counter offer is not accepted, throw them into an auction post.

An auction format maybe worth while for the more valuable names, let people fight it out.

Domainers may not pay top prices like end users, but most us have liquid cash so the sales and payment should be fairly quick which seems to one your main things.

I never dealt with him directly, spoke to him briefly and the odd exchange but he seemed like a good and helpful man.

I certainly wouldn't release the names of accept willy nilly offers.

First off, my condolences for your loss... I didn't know your husband as well as many people on here did, but I exchanged a few messages and did a few deals, and like everyone I was shocked to hear he'd passed away.

Secondly, you're not going to get anywhere near the best price for the names by doing private deals. The only way to secure a decent value quickly is to auction them off publicly in some way. So don't send lists to some people but not others - there's no way you'll get LESS from posting them publicly than you will privately...

Either that, or if it really is a case that you need to liquidate quickly and get a tricky situation sorted out, then post the lists publicly in batches on here, and set a deadline (e.g. 1 week) and the highest offer you receive for each name within that timeframe is the winner.

Kind of like sealed bids, if you like i.e. nobody sees the other bids - they just need to bid the maximum they think the name's worth TO THEM by the end of the time period. Because people are bidding against themselves only, it really doesn't matter what anyone else has or has not bid - and it means people need only send in one bid per name. So for example if domain name example.co.uk was "worth" 500 pounds to me then I could bid 500 pounds on it at any time during the week, and if that's the highest offer then I'd win it at 500 pounds.

I think most people on here won't mess you around, especially given the circumstances, so if you make it clear that all offers are binding the above should work.

If you can, try and space the sale out in batches like I indicated. If you post all the hundreds or thousands of names in one thread, then people will "cherry pick" the most valuable ones and you'll be leaving very useful cash on the table. Whereas if you tackle the portfolio in groups of 30, 50 or however many domains are manageable, and get each sale tucked away before starting the next one, you should end up a lot better off overall financially from the experience.

The other thing to do might be to enlist help sorting through the lists (but NOT actually SELL any of the names at that point) and pick out some nice names, then get them listed on DomainLore.co.uk. That site seems to work pretty smoothly for sales, and quite a number of deals get closed on there.

I didn't know Khalid personally, never dealt with him either, but it's obvious that he had good friends here, just as it was with Matt too. Terrible when you think of it that a relatively small group of people have seen two well known names within their ranks pass away in a such a short amount of time, but great to see those still here are keen to give their advice so willingly, as it should be.

I'd noticed some of Khalids' personal registrations lapse, didn't know about his company though, what did he trade as?

I think it was pixelcraze.

As with Matt, I think a phone call to Nominet will get any of the domains currently in suspension locked from being released until any/all sales & disposals go through.

They should look favourably on this if they know the circumstances.
