Hi all, my name is Alex, from the uk, new to the domain industry. I have been reading up a fair bit over the last month or so on domaining, and have registered a couple of domains myself, some dropped, and some new. I am yet to develop any of my domains, so the majority are only worth what i paid for them ( i expect). If i were to pick my best domain i would probably have to go with goretro.net, or muscleworkouts.co.uk as both have reasonable search volumes. In terms of my worst domains, its either the first one i registered which is dyloans.com or aboutuk.org (please correct me on that if im wrong). I have also been using the domain name analyser tool (dont know if you have heard of it) to sift through four letter domains, allowing me to pick up four fairly reasonable four letter .orgs and .nets (dumy.org, enal.org, liid.net and ogey.net)
I have been reading through this forum for a couple of days, and where as some of you are quite blunt with each other, i can see this is a good community, and one where im sure i will enjoy my stay :)
Thanks,
Alex

You're right mate we are blunt with each other but hey it helps if you get the truth ;)

Anyway welcome to Acorn and enjoy

Indeed welcome. Nice that you've spent sometime reading the posts

Agree we are generally straight to the point here at Acorn - too many other Domain forums spout nothing but "Great domain" or "Worth $10,000 to end user" Its called massaging each others Egos

Welcome. You'll probably want to switch your keyword tool to "exact match" as for example "go retro" has 3,600 broad match but only 28 exact match and the latter's what you need to be looking out for. Similarly, "muscle workouts" has 22,200 broad match but only 260 exact match - it's very easy to buy commercially irrelevant stuff if you only look at broad...

Welcome, pretty much everything you need is here. Don't be afraid to ask and don't let the bluntness put you off!

Regards

Aiden

Welcome mate. Exact match is the main stat to be looking at if you are mainly concerned with domaining. There is no harm in looking at broad or phrase to get an overall picture of your market if you are looking to develop though.

Buy stuff you'd actually invest your time and money into developing, [don't always do this myself but it's sound advice]

See selling as secondary option not primary. Helps you pick better domains I find. If it's not good enough for you to want to keep hold of assume others will see it the same way. Heady days when anyone would buy anything are long gone I think most will agree.

Join in as many threads as you can, you'll learn a lot very quickly, which your wallet will appreciate.

Oh and welcome to the Jungle. Bless.

Remember selling is harder than buying. Don't buy too many until you've sold a few first.

Rgds
