Guys been lurking for a while hoping to pick up some tips! I have a 30 odd business and adult related domains that I've registered over the years. Most of the business one direct to my company site but the adult ones don't work for me at all. Any tips on getting them to pay for themselves? A couple of niche ones that I think would be real good earners with the right content and some generic stuff that I suspect gets hits as it is but isn't directed anywhere.....
How do I even monitor traffic.... New to this but willing to learn fast!
Thanks

Almost immediatly I posted this I got a PM asking what they were in exchange for assistance - should I be wary? Again I'm new to this so no offence to the person if it is a genuine offer just thought I'd canvas opinon rather than make a newbie error!

Get a google account, go to webmasters tools, add your site etc, go back to account homepage, add google analytics :> add code to website, wait a few weeks for a hit, and there ya go, stats in abundance.

@ Domain Angel, I went to try the Google analytics on my site last week, logged in etc, got to the analytics page, went to set up an experiment as it tells you to do for option 1 or 2 for a busy or not so busy traffic site, on the next page, it said something like

1.
2.
3.

Have you completed steps 1 and 2 before you continue, if not, click here to do that now, so I clicked the link, which takes me to the page I was on previous to the page I had just left, where again, it says, choose one of the 2 options to start the experiment, of course, that just takes me to the next page asking if I have completed steps 1 and 2 before continuing, I was just going round in circles , got proper p*ssed off with it and signed out.

I login and go to webmaster tools, it takes you to a dashbaord page, is that where I'm supposed to add my site? if so, then my site is already listed there since about a year back, can't figure out what you mean by go back to the home page after the add the site page, which home page? Because if I click the Google logo banner, it just reloads the same dashboard page again.

[edit]

Sorry, just noticed you said go to "account homepage", not home page, still, when I go to my account page, there is nothing called Google analytics there.

[edit]

Scratch all that, no wonder I couldn't find analytics, it's on a site of it's own that you have to register with or login to with your Google account details, now got the analytics page up, just need to figure how to set up to get code for my site. (now sorted :D)

Ok ok I may sound a bit cruel there, but the reality is, if you cant help yourself, how on earth can you expect someone else to help you.

DomainAngel - They are all fair comments, TBH I haven't really spent that much time trying to help myself on this one as I was taking the quick and lazy way out by asking on the forum. I'm following your advice. Thanks.

OK so I've set up my Google analytics but got stuck on pasting the code to my website. I don't have a site as my current hosting prohibits adult domains... can anyone recommend anything cheap and cheerful that's adult friendly?

Systreg what a crazy post lol

I was reading and didn't know if you were asking for help or not

Nice to see DA helping out again ;)

100% nothing like sedo.
put on google adsense, any affiliate you want, if you look at the sites in my signature they are made with it, put on ebay,amazon...
the earnings are massive compared to parking with sedo for pennies

so what if it has an affiliate link in it? cheers for that rob

Er thanks but no thanks.....

;) No problem with affiliate links at all (everyone has to earn somehow!)

Don't think its for me though - my portfolio is too small to make it worthwhile as its just an interesting sideline for me, perhaps if Sedo shows impressive results it'll be worth changing.... If thats the case I'll remember who told me about Whypark:D

anyway, welcome to the forum uksurvivor.
nice to have you on board

Forum rules Affiliate links of any type in posts not allowed in posts, signatures, or anywhere on the forum. The Owner of this forum is the only one permitted to post affiliate links.

Domain Name Forum Acorn Domains Buy Sell Trade UK Domain Names - FAQ: Acorn Domains Forum FAQ etc.

If aff links were allowed people would be suggesting sites based on rev not experiance, it devalues the whole 'advice' element of a post and makes you wonder the reasoning behind the post.

@ UK Survivor,

A pretty decent free webhost that doesn't make you display ads is Most Endorsed FREE Website Hosting Provider | Free Website Hosting

They allow adult material on sites, I have hosted 4 sites with them (non adult) for quite a while, they do have occasional down time on their newer boxes, but it's always resolved quickly, if you want to enable sql databases/php etc it's a one of fee of about $9
