DOnt know if this is in the right section, please move it if you feel like it is, but we have all done it and i am new to this as well but wasting money on what we think is good but is really rubbish in the end!
What I want to know is how do you know what is a good domain, im looking at buying a .co.uk domian name at the mo it doesnt have many exacts at all, to be honest it is really low but its a one word .co.uk domain and could see how it could fit in with some end users, but im not sure and dont want to keep wasting money on something that isnt worth it,
So the question is how do I work out if its worth it or not? obviously im not going to say what it is otherwise if it is good someone will prob reg it lol
Thanks

Ryan

If you are not prepared to invest and maybe lose £10 on your hunch there is no hope for you.
Sorry.

Its hard to say without sharing the name with us?
Its only £7 so why not go and reg it, its the best way to learn :)

This is what im saying tho its not just 7 quid its 7 quid times all the other 7 quid I have spent on rubbish lol, but oh well let do it anyway, was just hoping for some tips

Its all relative, Think how much earth an open diamond mine moves each day..
compared to how many diamonds they mine...
or
How many doors do you have to knock on to sell some crap tv or cable package?..
or
how much s**t do you have to throw on the wall before some of it sticks..

you may well spend 2 years registering crap names and trademarks but for sure you will learn lots on the way - unless you give up now.

So, that said.. Do you want to tell us the name and learn the easy way, or keep it secret and learn the hard way :)

Sorry I didn't know you had already made mistakes. I would list your portfolio let someone give an honest opinion on there merit. Cheapest way to gauge what you are doing i would think.

haha this put i smile on my face while reading it so i thought i would do it the hard way, it is, drum role please.......disputing.co.uk
my thoughts behind it was for maybe people disputing ppi payments charges or bill payments something along those lines?

This is the million dollar question one that I too would love the answer to. I suspect as others have said as domain name investors (£6) we have to go with our hunch.

I have started from scratch and simply try to absorb as much information as possible, I have regd some terrible names but I simply see it as a learning experience, at present my wall is covered in s**t ;).

As time goes by I am thinking much more about the domain; it's uses and potential value which is better than my original plan which was if it's available; reg it!

Good Luck

Regards

Aiden

There is merit in your idea, It's generic,

the .com was registered in 2000 and the .org is actually being used.

So the question is, good investment or just a waste again?
or the real question whats it worth?
Thanks

I totally agree with fresh here. It is a hard work.. and sometimes a bit of luck as well. Of course there is an algorithm that lets you estimate a domain's value and it is "relatively" easy to say if a domain is good or not or has potential. The problem however lies in the fact that most of these so called "good" keyword/keyword rich domains are already taken, at least it the top tld's.

So you have to read, read and read.. and make your own conclusions based on what you already know. You will learn a lot from your own mistakes over time. Advertise your domains - people need to know that they are available. List them at sedo, forums, etc. Do not register dozens of names just because you like them. Try selling what you already own. If, despite many efforts you can't sell a single domain it just means something is wrong. Read more, research. Experiment with different extensions (by that I don't mean going an a reg spree but simply registering one or two names you think have value and trying to sell them. This could give you more insight into the overall business/community). Some people on here stick to co.uk and com only and that's fine too. You just have to decide your own priorities.

I have sold names for xxx/xxxx that more experienced domainers said would never sell or are worth only few £. The argumentation was that its an obscure extension/has a hyphen/keyword doesn't suit extension/it doens't rank well/whatever. Were they wrong or was I only lucky someone really wanted that particular name? Yesterday I received an offer via sedo for a .info name (two words, UK spelling) and we closed the deal at $350. This very same name would most likely sell for few $ if I was to advertise it on some domain forum.

I realize that what I just wrote doesn't really answer your questions but hope it helps somehow. :)

I wish i could sell my .info name, it has over a million uniques but got told it was worthless, it is on sedo but no offers

What do you mean by "over a million uniques"?

Do you mean it has a GAKT exact match score of 1,000,000+?

What is the name is it trademarked if its not and the exacts are true then I'd doubt its worthless

sorry I didnt mean uniques! I dont know what im doing today seem all over the place lol time for a red bull! i did mean exacts, it was train-times.info
the words train times i think if i remember gets 1,800,000 exacts a month

Doubt your ever going to make a fortune selling it. try flipping it in the bargain bin of one of the international domain forums

also had trainstimes.org.uk gets 33k i think,

I did try selling them on here but no one offered anything

You would do better with Disputing if you was going through the process and documented it, advertised companies thus making it a valuable earning resource.
